Indiana's the next battleground state for the primaries. So for one of the first times since 1968 with Robert Kennedy, a presidential nominee actually came to our town.

I'm pretty sure there's some people who wished she didn't, with really good reason.

I live in an area that's usually called Michiana. It's basically composed of South Bend, Notre Dame, and other, smaller cities (Elkhart, Benton Harbor, Granger, Mishawaka, etc.) and sort of operates as a unit. South Bend is the biggest city in the area, so we get whatever little activity that goes on here. SB and Notre Dame kind operate as a unit, so that includes them too.

We also have the area's largest school corporation. There are four major high schools: Clay (best in all the fine arts except band), Riley (nothing special), Adams (preppy and stuck up), and Washington (ghetto). Naturally, Hillary decided she would come to the ghetto school. Completely ignoring the kids coming to school with guns and the occasional student dropping out because they murdered someone, it's in the least financially well-off part of town, and that's Hillary's base.

The school district superintendent bypassed the school board and declared that Hillary couldn't come. The reaction has ranged from "anger" to "possible assassination." Instead, Hillary went to the nearby Mishawaka High School, which accepted her.

[EDIT: Apparently, he didn't bypass the school board. In fact, they all voted in favor of it except for one person. That lone member said they were never well-informed about what they were voting for]

No one's really sure what the actual reason is for kicking out Hillary. They've offered explanations ranging from not allowing political campaigning to security risks (despite the Secret Service having inspected the school multiple times). Apparent they also said the event would disrupt the school day, conveniently forgetting the times they pulled kids out of class to go see plays, had unscheduled storm drills, and canceled classes for the Tolerance Assembly.

Washington High School is devastated, and the community is calling for the superintendent's head. The city's been robbed of a tremendous opportunity for no clear reason. It's ridiculous.

No tl;dr, just read it.

Sounds definitely like he was against it either for her "safety" or so the school wouldn't make a spectacle of itself. Who knows.

Anywho, that stinks

For a minute, I thought it was something along the lines of Hillary being booed off stage or something, but that's just ass.

I half expected to see "no survivors" somewhere in there. :\

It stinks that the school was denied their chance to see a presidential candidate like that. Even if it was her. Her safety was probably the key reason.

(If it were me I would have encouraged her to go. <_<)

Going by how politics work, one of the first things the government does is silently get revenge on places. You know all those presidential candidates from Massachussetts? Yeah, we lost a lot of Federal money that way.

What this means is, if Hillary makes it to the White House, I betcha that school she was kicked out of would be snuffed out like a cigarette butt.

You have tolerance assemblies? That's cool

EDIT: It teaches you to be accepting of other races and stuff right? I never even heard of something like that.

It's a pity the kids were denied the opportunity to see a candidate up close.

She came to Evansville just last week. There are lots of highschools: Reitz, Reiz Memorial, Bosse, Harrison, Central, North, etc.. Hillary chose Harrison, and I know lots of people went just to express their hatred of her. I don't know how it went (though I can certainly hope it went bad).

She came to my college a few weeks ago... I couldn't really have cared less if I tried. I pretty much hate her.

However, the thing that blew my mind was that it was invitation only, and all the invites were for people that already knew of and greatly supported her cause. So, aside from the slight press buzz, there was really no point to it. I could have easily went as part of the press for the school (since I'm with the E.M. department), but I had a geology test that I considered at the time much more important.

I was at John Kerry's infamous speech last year where the student was tasered, so I can imagine they'd be quite concerned about crazy students in an area that's already so volatile to begin with during a time when the politician is at the forefront of media attention.

pretty much, the thing is it's so blunt and stupid that I can't stand the assemblies at all, and it's mandatory. Plus it just seems to be there to make white people feel bad for stuff they didn't do. Last time I had to go to one I snuck in wearing a Nazi officer hat and armband, just because I was so pissed off at having to go.
