Indiana's the next battleground state for the primaries. So for one of the first times since 1968 with Robert Kennedy, a presidential nominee actually came to our town.
I'm pretty sure there's some people who wished she didn't, with really good reason.
I live in an area that's usually called Michiana. It's basically composed of South Bend, Notre Dame, and other, smaller cities (Elkhart, Benton Harbor, Granger, Mishawaka, etc.) and sort of operates as a unit. South Bend is the biggest city in the area, so we get whatever little activity that goes on here. SB and Notre Dame kind operate as a unit, so that includes them too.
We also have the area's largest school corporation. There are four major high schools: Clay (best in all the fine arts except band), Riley (nothing special), Adams (preppy and stuck up), and Washington (ghetto). Naturally, Hillary decided she would come to the ghetto school. Completely ignoring the kids coming to school with guns and the occasional student dropping out because they murdered someone, it's in the least financially well-off part of town, and that's Hillary's base.
The school district superintendent bypassed the school board and declared that Hillary couldn't come. The reaction has ranged from "anger" to "possible assassination." Instead, Hillary went to the nearby Mishawaka High School, which accepted her.
[EDIT: Apparently, he didn't bypass the school board. In fact, they all voted in favor of it except for one person. That lone member said they were never well-informed about what they were voting for]
No one's really sure what the actual reason is for kicking out Hillary. They've offered explanations ranging from not allowing political campaigning to security risks (despite the Secret Service having inspected the school multiple times). Apparent they also said the event would disrupt the school day, conveniently forgetting the times they pulled kids out of class to go see plays, had unscheduled storm drills, and canceled classes for the Tolerance Assembly.
Washington High School is devastated, and the community is calling for the superintendent's head. The city's been robbed of a tremendous opportunity for no clear reason. It's ridiculous.
No tl;dr, just read it.
