First of all, please note that although I'm posting globally on the forums again, I probably won't be very active for a while due to my large workload.

Secondly, kindly excuse this long post. I usually try to limit my ordinary posts to 5 sentences or so, but I really have a lot to say here.

This topic is meant for advice, or something of a similar nature. It seems that I can never quite make people happy on this forum. Sometimes I'm persona non grata for one thing, sometimes for another.

Last year I was well-known for my consistent defense of Joey and Trasher when they were mods, so I was labeled a "suck-up" and an "asskisser" by many, and in fact looked down upon by people actually among the mod staff.

However, after the two were removed from the staff, things changed, and my attitude changed. I became more inclined to complain about the state of the forums, partly due to the drastic turnaround of November 14. This continued on until this year, culminating in a very recent incident when I was given a strong warning by the administration to quit minimodding, which I understand to have heavily involved, in this case, my tendency to bring up and question mods' decisions behind the scenes. While I'm not arguing that I didn't deserve the warning (I figured in the past that Rule 9 of the rules encouraged dialog with mods, but I really was taking it too far at times), I feel I must point out something here.

If I support the mods and their decisions, I'm an "asskisser".

If I question the mods' decisions, I'm a "minimod".

Either way, some administration members end up disgusted with me, and I can't seem to win either way.

And so the big question: What is it I can do to make myself tolerable to this community?

Sure, maybe one can just say, "Completely distance yourself from mod matters, and don't involve yourself anymore." Perhaps so, but that brings up another puzzling fact:

Back in the days when Joey was a mod, certain members (e.g. Rath, Nightwing, Soup) were very vocal in their questioning of Joey's decisions, and were in fact defiant toward him and openly considered their own judgments better than his. However, they were not labeled "minimods", and in fact they seemed to gain respect and support from various people, perhaps including some other administration members (either former or present).

I cannot help but contrast this to my own situation. My dealings with the mods never involved any teenage-style rebellion and defiance, and in fact I generally tried to behave in a highly decent and orderly fashion; and yet they were widely respected, and I was considered a great annoyance.

So if I shouldn't be involving myself at all, what was the key difference here between these situations, if any?

Final note: Please do not come in saying nothing but "THIS IS A MESSAGE BOARD, STOP TAKING IT SO SERIOUSLY." The fact of the matter is that I have very few friends that aren't online friends anymore, it's bull**** to say it's easy for someone like me to make new friends IRL, and this message board is in fact one of my few remaining avenues for social interaction. If I'm totally rejected here, I'm essentially a social reject. That is all.

Nice reasoning.
I never really was around the CCC to witness these incidents, me being more involved with the Arts Board and CFP and stuff, but this sounds like a pretty hard situation for ya'.
Hope it turns out alright, bud.

this is a definite sign you need to go outside more

if you have trouble fitting into an online community, the problem is probably within yourself

that said, it wasn't the questioning of mod decisions that made them tell you to stop minimodding - in fact that is not even the meaning of minimodding

you probably recall my habit of questioning joey's/others mod decisions - yet i was never labeled a minimod, nor was i ever accused or confronted about it

imo, minimodding is **** like "you shouldn't be doing that" or "that is against the rules stop doing this" or etc; not just talking about how this decision was silly or that decision was silly

omg, this is really depressing. :[

You make good points, but some people don't care about that. It doesn't matter whether your posts are this long or as long as mine. They will always treat you the same because of your views.

Really? Don't worry about it.

This forum still has it's history of scapegoats. Remember that. The main reason you're labeled by so many people is because so many people seem to like blindly following the opinions of others. You're better than that.

You're a smart man, Grant. Don't let things trouble you too much, and do whatever you think feels right.

Actually, you got it wrong.

I received a detailed explanation of what they meant by "minimodding", and in this particular case it included the constant questioning of mods' decisions. It also meant the bossing around of members, which I also used to do, but that part's not relevant here.

After looking this over, the evidence you provided is quite powerful. Problem is, being that there is no solid proof to the admins that they violated your rights, they will most likely turn down any request for reconciliation.

Good luck on the case. View the rules and view them closely. *take the hint*

Sorry didn't see that post after I had just posted the one above. If the admins did not do anything to you, what exactly are you trying to gain? Supporters bias to your side of the case? I don't blame you but be careful. Admins might take this topic if you get supporters, as "chaos" as stated before entering the form. Then they will have evidence on you. Lemme know before you make a move. I'm good with suggestions. (No arrogance intended)

Grant is one of the few members who contributes to the community and main site, yet doesn't recieve enough recognition or respect in return.

The fact that he has trouble making friends on this message board is sickening.

Basically trying to figure out why it is I always get on people's bad sides (like the administration's, for instance), so I can stop "sucking" in so many people's eyes.

imo we should all learn to respect the next fellow member, whoever he might be.

Because Grant seems troubled that he gets very little respect when he always has a positive attitude and when he has rationality in his posts.

Don't change for what ANYONE in this forum says.

There is no "standard" for fitting in. Do what you have to do. But at the same time, people can be really unfair. You just have to deal and be above that.

My only suggestion in a situation like this would be to post your opinions in moderation. Also, mods will do there job the best they can, so no need to help enforce the rules. Just be a good participant and the admins might contact you to be a mod. For the time being, there are more categories or response than just supporting a mod's decision or questioning it. This is probably why you might have got on people's nerves, because the info you posted wasn't relevant to the topic to help the mods. (Basically doing the wrong thing for the right reasons) Good luck to you my friend.
