QUOTE (Grant @ Mar 28 2008, 10:09 PM)
I go to college, but most of my work is online, and when I go into class I rarely interact with the other students. I honestly am not sure how to go about just making friends with them.

I also have a job, and I guess I get along smoothly with them nowadays most of the time, but I clearly remember past times where, iirc, I got into vicious arguments with some of the people there. Even now I never interact with those people outside of work; I just don't connect enough, it seems.

Well then work on that skill. Go outside your "comfort zone".

Well what do you need to hear man? Joey is a pedophile and Yoshiman is a voyeuristic creepo *******? You won't believe that either, even though both are true.

um ok college isn't that much from any kind of school or other places like that

start a conversation

see your problem is that you are far too easily offended

you once said that you broke off friendly relations with 3 people because they insulted your parents

and frankly that is, bluntly put, utterly and completely stupid beyond all means

if you're willing to lose friends, that you yourself said are hard to make for you, over something so incredibly inconsequential like that, then you need to reconsider your priorities

Yeah I did see that about Sonic by the way; still can't believe it, I'm sure it will be terrible, that's about the only thing I can offer up on it now

Various things, I guess. Personal issues, perhaps involved with my excessive pride and hot-headed reactions to anything apparently insulting it.

...It isn't stupid in the least. How would it be loyal to just sit by when someone comes along and, for absolutely no good reason, insults my parents?

Besides, I never said I wouldn't be cool with the same people again if they took back what they said.

I think Rath's point is this isn't the ghetto, you don't hate everyone that disrespects you, because the fact is very few people really respect each other

Grant the below paragraph is in direct contradiction to the above.

Instead of breaking off the friendship, you should've simply said something along the lines of "Hey, that's crossing the line, don't say things like that again." and forget about it.

i am quite sure it was more than for no reason

you are still being irrational, still being quick to jump to conclusions, quick to take offense at the most trivial of things

Obstacles must be overcome, not avoided.

It's not like my patience hadn't pretty much run out already with those 3 or whatever people, either.

QUOTE (Duckboy)

examples man examples

I think I remember one thing being that I intensely resented it whenever someone (who wasn't my boss, but still technically ranked higher than I did) told me sharply to "quit complaining / talking back" and stuff, particularly when I was sure I was right about whatever the argument was about. Generally my response was to yell back, and hold a grudge for a while afterward.

But actually probably the worst example of me not getting along at work was when there was this guy working there, who was (no offense to him) mentally challenged, but who genuinely liked me for some reason. Problem is, I treated him like crap most of the time, mainly because of certain mannerisms he had (connected with his disability) which really got on my nerves and annoyed me for some reason. Other people noticed my treatment of him, and were pretty much disgusted with me. Fortunately, when he left the company to work elsewhere, we parted on good terms, but that doesn't change what had happened before. What's even worse about all this is that I frequently felt guilty and apologized to him about my behavior, but then ended up repeating the same treatment the next day. -_-

The first one, who were you talking to when you were talking back? customers? higherups? etc

The second one is just stupid on your part. I can't say more on that one and can't feel bad about it.

also where do you work

Yeah, make sure you know the argument can even be created. Me and Duckboy went down that road. And even though I picked a random member I thought I was right about. Did not change the outcome. (NO FLAME INTENDED)
