April Hall of Fame~
Every week, we showcase three works of art from all categories (drawings, pixel art, sprites, MISC) we find impressive, and then post it here.

What kind of art will be showcased here?
Three individual art pieces will be posted every week. One will be a drawing, another will be a sprite (or pixel art), and the last will be miscellaneous (such as photos, short stories, music, etc.). Each art will be by a different person. Also, each artist showcased every week will be different so everyone has a chance to be nominated.

Who are the judges? How can I help?
I (and HOPEFULLY SOMETIME SOON Tragedy anne) will post the showcases. You can help suggest art for us by PMing us what you think is impressive, and if find it to be impressive, we will be more likely to showcase it :O

How much art will be shown?
Only three per week.

Who can be nominated?
Anyone! Nobody is turned down for their status, regardless whether if they are relatively new or experienced at drawing.

How will it be presented?
We will show the image, the artist, and provide a brief explanation why we find it impressive.

What do you mean by "impressive"? What are you looking for in quality?
"Impressive work" describes any work that we feel it took a lot of effort to finish; those that do will most likely be considered. It doesn't have to look like the mona lisa to be considered, but it don't expect some rushed MSpainting one did in 3 minutes to be considered either.

How many times can I be nominated?
Only once. Each nomination will be from an unique artist. Therefore, a maximum of only one piece of art showcased can be by you every month. That does not mean that you can't be showcased in another month!

What will I get for being nominated?
Your art will be immortalized in this topic forever. Once showcased, you will not be forgotten here. These topics will be moved to the vault once the year ends.

The first showcase in April will be in Sunday, April 5th. Our nominees won't make themselves! Keep drawing!

Since there hasn't been much art posted this week that are not drawings, I could only nominate one piece this week as a result :/

Drawings - Kentucky Fried Panda
"Untitled"
Suggested by Ashura

In my opinion, Kentucky fried panda is a good artist; she obviously knows how to draw and color well. I love cute artwork, and she is good at making that. I have seen her improve as she posted in the arts board, and this pretty much represents how good she is now. I just love the design on this; it is bizaree but in a cute way.

I find this drawing to be excellent because of the character's design. She is drawn in a styilized anime style, and it uses nice bold colors to emphasize the character. Her coloring is nicely thought out. One aspect that makes this stand out is its use of complementary colors like red/green and blue/orange. She wears a yellow shirt and purple stockings (both complementary colors), which make this character pop out of the screen because the contrasting colors force attention into the viewer. It is not too bright and demanding, which would ruin the picture. Another aspect that makes this stand out is how cute her outfit is. It is untraditional and somewhat bizaree, but it uses down to earth items like stockings; I love stockings on characters because they add cuteness to them, and this character wears it on her limbs and legs. However, the best part of her design is her pose; it gives her a bizaree personality. She appears to have two personalities, one happy and one nasty; she prances cheerfully with innocent panda ears and a happy face to show good side, but her mouth is dripping blood, and her neck is wounded, which looks like its concealing her nasty side. The artist has done a good job at taking the time to make her character stand out with her personality, her outfit and her coloring. Therefore, I find this drawing to be excellent because of its design.

I encourage you all to post other types of artwork. Until next week!

No miscellaneous stuff this week, so I could only mention two. :x

April 12th, 2007~

Sprites - Sponge
"Jigglypuff sheet for Smash project - Continued"
Suggested by Ashura

user posted image

I've never seen sponge's sprites on MFGG, and damn I'm impressed. I think this sprite sheet is one of the most fluid I've seen here! Congratulations, Sponge!

I found this sprite sheet to be excellent due to its fluidity. Jigglypuff is a balloon shaped pokemon that is relatively easy to draw IMO. Jigglypuff isn't the hardest thing to sprite and animate, but it certainly isn't the easiest; Sponge took extra time and effort to make this as smoothly animated as possible. It is extremely usable as well. This sprite sheet has all of Jigglypuff's attacks, taunts, throws and even its final smash. Therefore, I find this sprite sheet to be excellent due to its fluidity.

Drawings - Duckboy
"Count Jackula"
Suggested by Ashura

Duckboy has done a great job once with this to win another hall of fame mention . It's dark, yet lighthearted at the same time, I love how it executes both well. Congrats, Duckboy!

I think this drawing is excellent because of its execution. Duckboy did a great job at showing the dark personality of one of klobber's characters. Duckboy used the appropriate dark and red colors on its wardrobe, and added the warlock's wardrobe to express its role as a villian; its thorned, cactus wings and an evil frown it is wearing make this character look sinister. Purple and blue warp effects in the background possibly reflects its twisted and corrupted mind. However, it is also lighthearted; everything from its evil face to the style itself looks very 90's cartoonish. It is not too lighthearted to be innocent looking, but not too evil to lack charm; it seems to have the right balance of both. Therefore, I think this drawing is excellent because of its execution.

Great choices indeed! Congrats you guys ^__^

And btw, Ashura, the "wounds" in Panda's character are actually gill slits, like a shark :P

Sprites - Starpower

Suggested by Ashura

I have never seen his sprites before on MFGG, but damn is this one by him impressive! It shows how talented he is in making a large number of high quality sprites.

I think this sprite is excellent because of its execution. I have never seen a M&L custom sprite sheet excecuted so well. It looks very official, and the frames look fluid. It looks official because it matches so well with the M&L style; the coloring and the outlines all resemble it. It even looks like it was stripped out of the game itself. It is fluid because it has a lot of frames used for each animation. For example, the animation of waluigi throwing something has about twelve frames, with each frame advancing the animation. There are about eighteen well done animations in the sprite sheet. The spriter must have took a while to finish all of them. I believe that anyone making a M&L fangame with waluigi should use this sprite sheet. Therefore, I think this sprite is excellent because of its execution.

Very rare is it for me to save an MFGGer's song to my hard drive when it's submitted to the Arts Board, but this one managed to make it there. Obviously, if you aren't a fan of metal, you aren't going to like this, but music always is about personal preference and taste.

The guitar has a great growling amp setting to it, and the entire song has a great sense of "crap, just run" to it. I'm not sure what AppleQueso's view for this song was, but that's the direction it's given, and it sets it incredibly well.

The other interesting fact, is that he managed to convince me about the bass drum - I originally said it sounded too much like a tom drum; however, he informed me that the song has a tribal flavour to it, and that changed my opinion about the whole song, just on one instrument alone.
