I just watched the final battle in Earthbound, and I gotta say...

Like I said on AIM:

the only scary thing about the giygas battle was the name thing, and that's only if you didn't remember where you gave the game your name

I even thought my game had screwed up each time it only showed parts of my name each time

That's fine for you guys. That's your opinion/preference, and you're definitely entitled to it.


But as for us, we found it creepy, and I could give you a bunch of reasons why, and that's our opinion, and we're entitled to ours.

The battle freaked me out

What's so bad about that

Truly Giegue frightened me more as the first game had a much more hopeless feeling to it, as well as the background music or more like background sound, and everything leading up to it was just freaky.

the event prior upon entering the area (not coming back) scared me

in before "([name here] times 11) i feel happy"

Mother never has normal hack and slash final battles. Ever.

It's funny how it works like that, instead of challenging the player gameplay-wise the intention is to actually attack the player directly

The mind-**** might have been more effective if people consider where Giygas' babbled speech comes from.

Some people (e.g., me) frighten more easily than others, so you don't even really have to consider those sorts of things so

Giygas didn't scare me, per se, but I sympathize with you guys when you say fighting him was one giant mind****.

I beat the game when I was 17 (never owned an SNES), but I'll definitely agree that battle was dark and depressing to a point. Even moreso when I finally figured out that simply smacking Giygas around in the final phase of the fight wasn't even going to do a thing, especially with him having like 10 million HP. I think that was the very first time I thought to use Paula's Pray for anything.

Also, that whole "Nessnessnessnessnessnessnessnessnessnessnessnessness it feels GOOD" thing was veeeery disturbing</Brock>

Giygas still leaves me with an unsettling feeling when I battle him, if just for the weird noises

also, I'll add that I have beat Earthbound, twice. But each time has been by emulation, and by savestates.

I recently beat it on SNES, no savestates made beating it more rewarding, since it made it 10x harder

EB isn't really tough once you get Jeff, it's just soloing as Ness that's hard.

I think the game gets easier from the time Poo joins your party. Before then, everyone is seriously underleveled.

Though Jeff makes some pretty explosive **** for weapons that makes battles like Master Belch and those UFOs that give you colds just a tad easier.
