Alright, sorry everyone for the long wait. I finally got the next update up

Here's the new file!

Alright, so some changes since the last version are:

A basic action command system has been added.

The inventory has been redesigned a little (no new items though, sorry)
I fixed the dielog portions of the game. Instead of stating what character is talking, there is an arrow that points to the talking character.

Yoshi and Kirby's house is started, and the house basement is finished.

The battle look a lot nicer now, thanks to some nice boxes that show the enemy's name, Paper Mario style, and a minor inventory change. Also, many battle-related glitches have been fixed.

You no longer fall out of rooms when reaching the border.

Some camera movement has been added to cutscenes to give a nice effect.

Some of the dialogs haev been changed slightly.

This is...Actually decent!

However, battles are a little dull because lack of action commands. Plan on adding those in?

Also maybe eat attacks should do more damage if a heavier enemy (AKA Moore) is attacked I think.

And the crowd should be a bit less spastic I think. Instead of having them all move all the time, I think they should sometimes be still, then move around a bit, maybe stay still a little bit more, and so on. I like how they jump though.

Speaking of jumping, moving around in the air is a little hard, especially around those flying shy guys, because there is no aerial traction, and that can screw you over.

Keep it up, though! biggrin.gif

I would add an earthbound type system so when you do a frontal attack to an enemy you can KO, it skips the fight.

The transition from platforming to the battle sequence really doesn't flow well at all. Simple things such as level transitions and bouncing off of the enemy you jumped on to initiate the battle (as in Paper Mario) could make the experience a little smoother. Also, to be honest, I really feel that the level was designed to force you into too many battles. The enemies can be avoided if you're diligent. But playing the game for the first time, I became annoyed with the constant interruption with the battles as I was trying to traverse platforms. I felt kinda out of control.

I also noticed that several tiles were spaced 1 pixel apart, even the ground tiles. I don't know if that's just a glitch or if you have something in the settings set incorrectly but I definitely suggest that you check it. Speaking of the graphics, some of them don't match up well. The crowd in the battle sequence is ripped from Paper Mario 2, that much is obvious. And they don't fit well with the sprites that you used. But I'm not really going to nitpick much further. It's an interesting concept and I think you could pull it off nicely if you reconsider the execution a bit.

Same what Josh said. there are WAAAAY to many enemies that half your game is nothing but battles. Kirby/Yoshi moves too fast, and falls fast as well. Also, the jokes weren't terribly funny. You need Peardian's inspiration :P

The fade out is the dullest transition ever. Some occasions are okay, like death. Others, such as a battle is NG (No good. I think it's a Japanese movie thing).

Another thing, TOO MUCH HP! The Shy Guys have like 4 HP, which is way too much. I suggest doing what was done in other Mario RPGs, where if you hit the enemy, when you push a button, you can jump again. Crap like that will make it more interesting, and less frustrating.

@MTC: Thanks! Maybe I'll edit the damage rating to heavy enemies, I don't know, but I'll think about it.

@Joshua Werner: I tried making a curtain fall sequence, but that didn't look too good. I'll try to figure something out though. I actually intend to add more Paper Mario elements, like First Strikes, Action Commands, etc. I'll make sure to add the action command and first strikes, and I'll do my best to make battle transitions better.

Also, the tile thing happens on some computers, while it doesn't on others. It happens on my friend's computer, and my Vista, but not my laptop, so I think it just has to do with the PC.

@Soiyeruda: I'll remove the enemies if you guys really feel that way, but I can make it through the whole level with only facing about three enemies. I'll reduce the enemy's HP though. And yes, I suck at making jokes smile.gif, and I'll leave that to Peardian.

@Everyone: Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try to get an improved version up by Friday.

I would suggest only having a first strike type thing and also less hp on shyguys and also a way to dodge, counter, or reduce damage on attacks. Also is it supposed to freeze after the boss battle?

Also maybe is could show descriptions on items and show how much hp a party member has when using healing items.

It's caused because the screen is trying to stretch the window, and it ends up making an extra pixel in between. It depends on your computer.

Pretty good... Besides the problems that everyone else noted, when you use the Inventory in a battle you should be able to choose who to use it on. I told Yoshi to use a mushroom on my dying Kirby, but the greedy dino ate it himself. And Kirby died. D=

If you're looking to be confused, make word filters changing all vowels to a certain letter (I suggest to a vowel), all for read-only, and loose. For example, with all vowels turned to "i"...

Alright, apparently the most requested thing here is a first strike system. I'll be sure to program that in for the next update. I also reduced the hp of Shy Guys and subtracted enemies from the screen. As for the game freezing after Moore, I fixed that also. Like I said before, I'll try to have an update by Friday. No promises though.
