But I want to be able to automatically boot a game disc as it is inserted! Shouldn't there be an option to do so as there is on the XBOX 360? Why hasn't Nintendo updated the Wii menu with options like that?

Or how about being able to navigate the menu with any controller? Like if you were going to play a virtual console game or a Gamecube game disc with the Gamecube controller. It is such a hassle currently, in my opinion, just to turn a game on. Especially since my only sensor bar is the wireless one that tends to use up batteries quickly if you have siblings who don't turn it off when they're done playing (the sensor bar that came with this wii malfunctioned).

I agree with the second part. It would be much easier navagating everything with different controllers. As for the first part... well, I could get over it if I could use any controller.

He's saying if you go to the game automatically when you start on Home, going to the home button would restart the game anyways. But I doubt Nintendo would do that, so...

it's possible to make game discs auto-boot by changing the first byte on the disc from 'R' to '0'
of course you'd need to be able to press the disc yourself or burn a one-off copy for a modded wii but hey~
yaosm, an open-source modchip for the wii, has a proof-of-concept function in order to auto-boot wii discs regardless of what that byte is though which is pretty cool

Umm, I'd prefer an official Wii Menu update to modding my Wii but thanks for the suggestion.

they should release a package of menu skins. that would rule. And every game that you buy could come with a skin related to that game. that would rock so much.

Well if they made it so you could just use an ordinary controller to navigate the menus, all you would need to do in theory is press A twice, which isn't difficult.

And hey Nintendo don't tend to put long loading times at the start. That was really common on the first two Playstations.

I'd really love to be able to use all controllers for menu navigation.
You can, however, use the Classic Controller's stick to navigate through the menu. But not the Cube's. So if Cube controllers work with Wii games, why don't they work with the Wii itself?

I do find it a tad irritating that I have to use a remote or a classic controller to start a game, if I'm gonna play a Gamecube game, I need to get my remote out of the drawer and switch it on and everything only to put it back away again, heh. But ya know what? That's just nitpicks, the Wii rules.

I'm suprised you can't get different skins for the Wii Menu.

I'm pretty sure Gamecube games go into "Gamecube mode" to save power, which is
why you can't use the home button and stuff. Oh yeah, nevermind, VC games...
wait, doesn't the rerelease of Majora's Mask work by an emulator on the game disk?
Maybe that's how VC games work, I dunno...

The PS2's loading times were fine.

Well you can use the joystick on the Classic Controller to navigate the menu but I guess it would be a good idea for an autoboot option and "any controller" controlling the menu. Maybe we'll see this in a future update. One thing I'd like to see personally is when you are moving channels (Hold A and B to grab a channel and move it) I want them to make it if you just drop the channel on top of an existing channel it would make them swap spaces, instead of having to move something to an empty space to make room if you are re-arranging your channels... Also a few "Auto-Arrange" choices would be nice too, to arrange channels by type, alphabetical order, etc...
