Rules for Fangame Discussion:

As usual, with each board, the forum rules applies to each board. Use your common sense efficiently.

Rules in italic have been changed/added in the last update.
When you see a "new posts" icon next to this topic, be sure to check it before posting anything!

1. This forum is used for showcasing your fangames, talking about other fangames, getting help with your fangames, or conversing different ideas/aspects of fangames.
We have the main board and the subforum "Miscellaneous Discussion" from now on. Question: What goes where?
- Main Board: Games and (useful) tools that have evidence of existance, and that YOU have made
- Miscellaneous Discussion: Everything fangame-related that is not really a game or (useful) tool or something you have not made.
- Everything that would fit into another forum of MFGG (Help topics, for example) goes to the respective forum. Even if it is fangame related. Example: "How can I make Mario jump in MMF2?" -> Help!-forum.

2. When posting in the Main Board:

Do NOT post minimal information. When you create a topic about your fangame, here are the rules:
- If you have no game, demo or engine, post screenshots. We want to ensure that your fangame is actually in production, and that you will proceed in your development of it.
- If you have screenshots, make sure they are of good size, minimum 320 x 240 (unless your game is supposed to be smaller, e.g. for a micro-game). Also ensure that you have a gameplay shot, that will actually show you are making said fangame.
- The only time screenshots are not required is when you have a game, demo or engine. (Still try to add screenshots, they will increase downloads of your game)

As above mentioned, you can also post productions of yours that are related to fangaming but not a game.
- This means useful tools. Retriever II's "Tile Lattice" would be an example, and so would MechaBowser's "MechaSource".
- If you post a topic about such a tool, the same rules like for games apply.

3. When posting in the "Miscellaneous Discussion" Subforum
If you want to recruit members to help with your fangame:
- You must proove that you are reliable. If you are an older member, people will be able to tell if you are reliable or not, if you are a new member, you should better come up with something solid (an engine test, links to past projects of yours) before doing requests.
- You must provide as much information as possible. Most importantly: What part of the game will YOU make?
- It would be especially good if you already added an engine test or something similar before requesting.
- Members found untrustworthy by the administration will have their topics locked instantly. (Even if all information mentioned in previous rules is there!). An example of such a member would be somebody who has cancelled a good amount of projects in a row.
What else goes to this subboard?
- Games or tools that you have not made but want to discuss with others.
- Program tests that are not intended to become a full game. (e.g. if you learn a programming language, you can post your "Hello World!" programs here. However if you want to show a lot of them, you should sum them up in one topic. If they're good, they might end up being moved to the main board.)

Do not try to find loop-holes in any of these rules, as usual.
The rules are neither complete, nor perfect as they are not written by lawyers. The staff will change and add minor rules from time to time, but the community will be informed when these things happens. Just check for new posts in this Rules Topic.

Failure to adhere to these rules will result in a first-time lock of topic. Any repeated incidents will result in suspensions/bans.

Due to many so called "recruiting topics" in the FGD, I have added new rules to the existing rules.
The idea behind this is the following:
If you want to recruit people for your games, you HAVE to be trustworthy, otherwise I will just lock your topics, no matter what.

QUOTE (The additional rules (added to paragraph 3))
- If you want to recruit members to help with your fangame, you must proove that you are reliable. If you are an older member, people will be able to tell if you are reliable or not, if you are a new member, you should better come up with something solid (an engine test, links to past - and finished! - projects of yours) before doing requests.
- Members found untrustworthy by the administration will have their topics locked instantly. (Even if all information mentioned in previous rules is there!)

UPDATE TO THE RULES:

In case you've not noticed yet:
The Fangame Discussion has a new layout again.

We have now the MAIN BOARD, where you will post your games. Look at it as a merged WIP and Finished board. You can not only post your WIP and Finished GAMES on the main board, but also tools that are useful for gamemaking. (e.g. MechaBowser's MechaSource or RetrieverII's "Tile Lattice")

We also have the MISCELLANEOUS DISCUSSION. There you will post everything that was before on the main board.

The BASIC change is that the subboards have been switched with the main board, so everything that went to the main FGD board so far goes now to the subboards and vice versa (except for the CFP, which stays in its subboard of course)

However, for a full view on the new rules check the first post.
For example you are no longer allowed to ask for help. We have the HELP! forum for that.

Thank you for your attention and thank you Black Squirrel for your quick operating.
~Guinea

EDIT: If you see a topic that does not belong to the position it is at now, please PM me so I can move it back. (But only if it makes sense... Don't come and say that a topic from 2005 is wrong..)
