Better to do what manually? Use tied 64th notes to create an arbitrary speed? Changing tempo is part of standard MIDI. I don't know how other programs handle it, but MAGIX msg6 has a separate Tempo Event List for just that purpose. Try opening this file (right-click; save link as) in Anvil Studio and see how it reacts when you change the tempo. In that scenario, MAGIX would immediately warn you that there are multiple tempos and offer to open the tempo list for you.
