Don't get a stroke over it.

Some fan games are big, like a certain one I'm collaborating with a group of people. It's about 50MB right now.

This game looks good, but I'll have to set aside a good 3 hours to download it. I also use RPG Maker 2003, though Game Maker has pretty much replaced that tool for me now.

I think we resolved it. I want music, but not HUGE MP3s. Here's a Tip if you still want MP3s. Get something called Audacity(It's Free)and load each MP3 into it. Then every time you load a MP3 into it, export it as an MP3 again with 96KBPS. It'll keep all or most of it's quality, but it'll shrink a LOT.

You could always replace as many MP3s as you can with MIDIs. EX: ALL the SMG music was made in an ORCHESTRA! MOST Orchestra Instruments are usable in MIDIs. Meaning SMG Music is MOSTLY a bunch of MIDI files with some extra instruments.

Do you even know what a MIDI file is? It's a set of instructions sent to a synthesizer to play specific instruments at specific notes for specific durations. It's like a piano roll for a player piano. There is no actual sound data stored in a MIDI file. That means that they will sound different from computer to computer.

You are totally wrong about the SMG music. They are performed by a live orchestra. That's nothing like a MIDI file.

Yes I know what a MIDI is. Maybe I didnt explain my thinking enough. I meant getting the best quality MIDIs he/she can find off of places like vgmusic.com. Maybe I should explain a little more next time.

Oh? MIDI making Programs can recreate SMG Music with the instruments in their Synthesizers, but like you said, It'll sound different from Computer to Computer, but that adds uniqueness to each person's individual Copy of the game. I think you would agree? And by Orchestras being similar to MIDIs, I meant that MOST of the Orchestra Instruments used, and ALL of the "Core" Orchestra Instruments, can be found in Synthesizers. This will allow people to recreate some songs EXACTLY as they appear IN GAME. I think you will agree with that, too?

I've made like 30 Super Mario RPG MIDI files on vgmusic.com as Alluro95, so I have a lot of experience making MIDI files.

Yes you can sequence music from SMG by listening to it and transcribing each part into the MIDI file, but, like you said, it will sound different from computer to computer. Problem is, most music from today's games are not MIDI files, and sequencing them into MIDI files will be time consuming.

On average, it takes me 5 hours to sequence a MIDI file from scratch. That's a lot of time for just notes alone. Then I have to add the controllers for pitch bend for glissando effects, volume control, modulation to emulate electric guitar whammy bar riffs, and so on. That's a lot of work there. If I was just sequencing MIDI files, then it's no problem. But sequencing music and programming a game? It'll be a slow slow process.

Oh? I'll look for your Songs.

It's true that Most songs are not MIDIs, and it makes it harder for MIDI makers to Transcribe the songs. It is time-consuming, but it's a good way to save space. Some people are limited on space, and I worry for those people, especially if they WANT to download games like these.

It is a long time for notes alone, but think about this, how long does it take the composers of the actual games the songs are from to actually MAKE the song? I doubt they get it on their first few trys, it'll take a while for them to get a Theme for a Level that's right, and even longer to make the song. Sequencing MIDIs+Making a Game=Slow, but it'll be quicker with developers for each part of the game. And besides, Brawl was supposed to be a Wii Release Title, but instead of it being released on it's original date of release, it got delayed 1 1/3 Years. How's that for a long time to make a game? Ionly used Brawl as an example because it took a LONG time, and I dont think it'll take a Year for making a Fangame that's half or lower than the Quality of Brawl, even IF you Sequence the MIDIs.

Brawl had a crew of hundreds of people working on the game. They still had delay issues. Most fangames are made by ONE PERSON. I'm collaborating with four other people regularly with that crossover project, and we are putting a lot of heart into this project.

If you think that a year is a long time to make a fan game, then you're mistaken. Super Mario Blue Twilight DX took BlazeHedgehog alone almost two years to make. You can't give a timeline for development of fangames, because it depends on the scope and the amount of effort put into them.

Back on topic, even without the mp3's the game will be fairly large because it requires the RPG Maker 2003 RTP in order to run, which is in of itself 10.5 MB in size.

Hey, uh, if you guys will calm down, I'll release the demo at lower quality and it will reduce the file size.

Besides, it may just some MP3's bogging it down.

I'll edit it for the ones who wish for a MIDI music format.

The lowest I could bring it would be 30 MB, but its better.

I just have to edit the events.

That'll still take a while for me, but whatever. 1 hour is better than 22.

I'm decreasing the MP3 size. Thanks, OniLink.

Well, it's better, but still a *little* too big for some people. But now that we know how much Gameplay is in it(The Hours)the extreme size makes more sense. This looks like it could become a great game! Those MP3s are pretty much the only Major Size Problems. I'll work on finding the Highest Quality MIDIs I can to replace the MP3s, and send the links to them to you to see if you like them. I hope RPG Maker 2003 accepts MIDIs though. :P I played the Soundless Version, and beat up through Bowser. Can't find Goombella. D: You should make a Guide for this when it's done.

EDIT: Downloading the Compressed Sound Version, only takes 30Mins with DSL and 512MB RAM. biggrin.gif

Actually, a while back some one found a way to have the game not reqiure the RTP; In fact, I have a game on my computer that runs fine and doesn't include the RTP.

You could say... around 5%.

I'm guessing though.

You're halfway through the first world. >_>

And the first world is kind of short compared to the others, and world two is about the 1/3 larger than world one.

Worlds 3 & 4 are huge.

And if you take the Pit of Trials, its extremely long.

And there are the hunts. >_>

And the optional bosses you can encounter in random places. (Such as the Ancient Forest) (Hint. Around the area where you go to Bowser's Castle after you fight Bowletta.)

EDIT: Found something fatal. Please download this and paste all the files in the folder that you downloaded.

Either:
M&L
TMW Stuff

Paste it. >_> Or you'll get stuck in Bowser's castle if you return.

You're complete with world one. About 8%.

Don't you have an objective marker? It is hard to use... so head south. To Yoshi's Island. :P

You should see a blue crystal in the center marked "World 2" when you communicate with it.

No Objective Marker here. How do I get one?

Edit: Oh, it's not an item. XD I cant get into Yoshi Island. The closest I can get is into a Big Blue Maze directly north of it D:

Not done with the side-quests, mind you. Now think, though, there is still 2-8 hours of gameplay on this DEMO.

The story to World one IS complete.

Besides, its a demo. You get what I have without getting too much. :P

So, OniLink... How's the game? >_>

Finally a enjoyable Mario game made with RPG Maker.I think I´m finished with the demo,I beat Man-eating Island and the pit(completely!),only thing I don´t have are the side quests.

Just a few suggestions:

1.Maybe change the in-battle sound for party member hurting?Cause it sounds weird when Peach etc. shout "Ow!" like Mario. XD

2.TOO MANY LABYRINTHS!Especially on Man-eating island this is very annoying.

3.Maybe make worlds you shouldn´t acces now unaccessable?Like I just went to Koopa Outpost after I arrived in the Forest of illusion, got to the boss room and there was nothing. So I had to head back the whole way to the other side.Or after I finished Yoshi´s Island I found myself back on man-eating Island because I didn´t find the Foi a few steps underneath. Also got very far on mei and somewhy had to make a U-turn again. And that´s annoying.

Except that and some other things I like it.Though I failed at every attempt making a Mario RPG with RM2k3. sad.gif

Yay. smile.gif

Thanks.

I am looking for a decent hurt sound. >_> I can't seem to find a Mario one. I am, actually planning also to add a map function, perhaps helping you find the next place easier.

For the fortresses and things, I'll put a lock over it.

Thanks for playing. :P

I will take care of the mazes and add more... puzzle to the maps.
