Yeah. I'm scared ****less right now because I'm turning eighteen in less than four months. I can probably stay at the group home for a little bit after I turn eighteen but I don't want to be so limited! I don't have a place to go because things are too messed up with my dad and my ex-step-mom probably won't take me because she wants to go live with her mother. That only would leave one choice...

...Transitional Living.

It sounds like the suckiest thing EVER. Like a voluntary group home for adults that just turned 18. Curfew and other limits that minors get.

I guess there is ONE other alternative - living at college. But I don't think I have the grades to get college completely paid for and the state aid for foster youth doesn't seem like it will be enough. Even if I could, I'd be scared to live at college because if my grades slip up I'm screwed.

But this topic doesn't have to be completely about me. If you don't care 'bout my stupid problems just discuss ITT how it was like for you to turn eighteen / how it will be like when you turn eighteen.

I just felt more free, as being able to drink (legally), get a driving license (I haven't got it though) and vote in parliament elections.

Nothing much else.

Yeah, I'm worried because my step-dad is ready to sign me up for the airforce the SECOND I turn 18, even though regardless I want to go through ROTC in college before I join. Then he tells me the Marines will do me good.

rolleyes.gif You tell me how to get out of this situation. He's pretty disconsolate, so if ya guys have any ideas do tell.

I'm not worried because you turn 18 a day before I do so if you go a bit nuts I have a day to prepare.

seriously though I don't see it as being much of a big deal for me because I'm not planning to go anywhere for a bit

I admit reaching Eighteen is exactly when reality smacks you in the face, but I didn't found it that stressing

Five years from that, here!

However, when I turned 13 last February, it felt like I had more freedom than my now 12 year-old sister.

Turning 18, though, seems like it's the start of a lifelong exam in which you get in trouble for failing.

I still have a year to go, and I'm sure the only thing that'll happen is me thinking: "Seventeen-year-olds are young >:(" because I do that with my previous age about two days after my birthday EVERY SINGLE YEAR... I dunno why.

Actually, that occurs when you enroll in university, and either your rent payment comes up, or your first tuition payment comes up, whichever arises first.

Tell him that it's your life, and he has no right to screw it up if you don't want him to. Remember, YOU'RE the one who signs the contract, not him.

Anyway, turning 18 will probably be more of a developmental milestone. I may end up living at college, since I will probably end up out of state, then move back and get a home uncomfortably close to my parents or stepparents, or move to Santa Fe, which is still pretty close, but since it's like, the art capital of the Southwest, meh.

Anyway Mason, I'm sure you'll come up with a soloution, even if it means resorting to transitional living until you can get your feet on the ground.
