This is a topic for anyone to post their sprites they feel need work and for other people to give them a little assistance in edits or examples.

Don't be afraid to post your sprites no matter the quality- we here at MFGG are here to help! And don't be discouraged if your sprites are missed- someone will eventually try to help. I myself will stick around most of the time and provide edits and such for anyone who needs them.

Also, anything could apply here- trouble with animation, shading, lineart, pose, etc.

So go ahead, tell us what you need!

(If this is like unnecessary or something like that feel free to lock, but I just thought this might be helpful to some people. :P)

Before you animate that I suggest you work on shading it or fixing up the lineart. Try a nice yellow-to orange-to red slide on the shading on the lemon and a red-to purple on the shoes. :P

I can't get decent pallettes, I always end up using the default MSpaint (Vista) pallettes.

Also I can't do lineart, animate or shade properly.

example, my best peice, my real-life ref, please give me some tips for making it better:

@Thingy, it's alright, but I suggest you up the contrast and maybe add a bit of hueshift. Not bad, though.

@SMM, I suggest making the lineart a bit smoother and try to shade the back of the spider(?) more like a sphere. Good work so far, both of you.

Also, this isn't just a topic for ME to help in, it's for everyone!

Well since this is a sprite help thread, do you think maybe it might be a good idea to explain what's wrong with the lineart in detail and give suggestions?

Sorry if I'm grating on your nerves with this but a lot of people post general statements like "fix the lineart a bit" here and it's confusing for me indeed. Don't know about the rest of you guys though maybe it is just me.

Take a piece of paper and crumple it up lightly. Now place the paper somewhere in your room that resembles the light source you're using. Use it as a reference for shading with wrinkles, etc.

What do you mean by up the contrast?
And could you give a tutorial on hueshifting, I suck at it.

Shape, just the shape. Make it less tall and more fat. M&LSS styled? no, it seems more like custom. oh and goombas doesn't have hands

Well just make it look like a goomba.

And Nappse, animating the line art then coloring and shading it, is the easiest way.

Was told to come here by this topic, excuse the bump.

Anyway, I am having issues getting the shading right on the following imagery, I am limiting myself to 16 colours and using the Mega Drives pallette scheme (For simplicities sake, and for portability sakes). Anyway, does anyone have suggestions on how I should do my shading? Because, it does look terrible and I'd like to one day at least learn shading. laugh.gif

Edit: The wing I am leaving to a later time, I know it looks terrible, but for now, I'd like to get shading out of the way. laugh3.gif
