I'm unexperienced, but when I test my game out, it freezes or says there is an unexpected problem since it has to play a mp3. It already plays some. Why isn't it working?

Perhaps you aren't preloading the MP3 (loading it as a part of the game itself as opposed to a seperate file). In which case, it has to be in the same folder.

Also, you probably don't want to use MP3s unless they are very small, like less than 30 seconds, because they eat up memory pretty quickly.

Oh, I already have like 7 mp3's. Should I replace them with MIDI's?

Yes MP3s are very big for a sound file a simple game itself is the size of one MP3

That depends... how long does the Game Maker File take to save? If it's taking an abnormally long time, making a switch to MIDI is perhaps the best path to take from there.

That many MP3s, if they're large, often cause both save and load times to slow down immensely. Sometimes, even small ones in a large amount can do this as well.

Trust me on this one, I know from experience.

@ phazonluigi: Not really, MP3s are just compressed, and Game Maker has to spend time and resources de-compressing them (from what I've read in the Help file).

For a small game with only one or two tracks, MP3s can be a good choice. For larger games, raze them down to the smallest sample you can with a sound editing program. A benefit from that is getting a looping MP3, which I myself happen to do.

Or you just convert the MP3s to WMA.They´re a lot smaller.

change em' to .ogg, then look on the gmc (gmc.yoyogames.com) and look in the .dll section for super sound .dll, use the example to load .ogg sounds into your game, it is really simple and .ogg are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more compressed (smaller) than .mp3.

Actually I use VUplayer to convert MP3s to WMAs.And VUplayer IS free.

I'm not sure, but I don't think all computers support those filetypes. I don't have much experience in sound files, though, so I may be completely wrong. I do know that MP3s do not run on all computers. I'm pretty sure it holds true, though, especially if the two are newer than MP3.
