I have done extensive research on each. Each one seems to provide the same thing. The choices I have seen are Tourqe Game Builder, DarkBASIC Pro, GameSudio, XNA, or Microsoft Visual Basic. Which of these (or something else) is better?

with a game programming book

can get you really far.

However if you have never programmed before, I'd suggest one of those game maker things and then learning how to write code insert whatevers.

listen to this man.

if you go with python, look into pygame.

if you go with C, look into SDL.


avoid XNA, and most of the other languages/environments/libraries you mentioned. they're not worth using and won't last far into your future.
