Playstation Emulators are illegal if you want them to run, because they require the bios files.

Though technically not illegal, a useless emulator is not an emulator.

Unless maybe someone figures out how to copy the functions of the Playstation BIOS without needing to have the BIOS file in order for it to run. What are the function of Playstation BIOS anyways?

as lightning says having a bios isnt illegal, its how you get it. but since we are on the topic of emulation and downloading roms, obviously we are talking about getting them illegally therefore making them illegal. its why alot of forums/websites about emulation tell you to download bios files elsewhere.(even though it doesnt mean they are hard to find, pretty easy actually)

+ it's legal to make your own ROM backup.
+ it's legal to possess a ROM file.
+ it's legal to use your ROM file in conjunction with an emulator.
- it's not legal to copy the ROM from someone else who doesn't own the copyright.
- it's not legal to share the ROM with other people unless you have express written permission from the copyright holder.

It's not legal to even use one period unless you have the express permission of the copyright owner, in the case of arcades at any rate...
