Ok, I have been noticing some strange applications on my computer. I first saw them in my programs folder. The next couple hours I was looking at stuff in a different folder and saw one there. I seen them everywhere from the programs folder to the my documents.

Whats the cause of this and how can I stop it? I scanned my computer for viruses using 2 different programs and they both found nothing.

-I have Windows XP
-These files look like they are just a bunch of random letters. Like tbhfwqz.

also if you've been getting popups about "anti-virus/spyware (cough)" programs (and/or a fake toolbar balloon that's like "YOU MAY HAVE SPYWARE ON YOUR SYSTEM" or whatever), you're in for a world of pain

That's the probably, I don't know how to get rid of it. Do I just delete them?

Oh about the virus scanners, I updated them today before I scanned my computer, still didn't find anything.

Ok, I just went to the C drive and theres alot of them. Do I delete them? I don't want to screw up my computer.

EDIT: I just saw your edit. Sadly, I have been getting pop-ups like that...Any advice?

virus scanners running on a system that's already infected is the dumbest design idea I've ever heard of
the virus can simply infect the scanner executable and have it not report anything.

selling people such a false sense of security is definitely not of questionable morals on the part of the "antivirus" authors either but that's another story

sounds like xgoff has experience with this particular virus. you'll probably need to back up your important files (non-executable!!! don't copy any EXE's, DLL's, etc. as they might be infected) and fresh-install an operating system

i've had it twice

also the newer variants use rootkits which is probably why your scanner isn't getting them

Yeah, I had one before that wanted me to constantly buy Spy Doctor. You have to manually get rid of the whole thing in safe mode, just search the ad it's giving you, the pop up thing, into google like. "How do I get rid of the spy doctor pop up virus" soon you will come accross a step by step process using multiple anti virus programs and safe mode instructions.

One more reason to not use window$

Seriously, get an antivirus software. For example Avast. When I used vindöfz, I used it and my computer didn't gather dirt.

Another (better) option is to use Linux.
