the original topic for those of you who don't know what mario's epic dream is

I've been working on this game for about 3 years, the first two of which were me making the engine. Oh god. I never ever want to attempt making a platforming engine ever again ... well of course I got over it (Judging by all my other scrapped platforming games) but this game has gone through some really bumpy times. Here are all the events of what's happened over the years: -The game started out as a drawing after a dream I had, where mario *spoilers blocked* and so he saves the day yet again -I got game maker about a month later and I decided to start programming an engine for this dream I had -ONE YEAR later I finally had a good engine -- then my computer "failed" (So to speak) and I lost all my data -Luckily I at least understood how to make an engine now so I attempted yet again -- and again, two months later, my computer fried and I lost the memory. -I gave up for about a month then attempted it again -- that took some time. -About two years since the project started I finally had a good engine, and so I posted it here -It evolved into what it "was" (Look in the old topic) until my computer YET AGAIN was annihilated. -One day I was going through my disks and I found a disk that I don't remember ever seeing before. I put it on my computer and low and behold it had the game and all it's data on it (That was surprising) -And then I happily worked on the game So I hope you found that an interesting read and not boring at all (*yawn*) I recommend you read the readme before you play the game, it's usefully full of information. the readme for those of you who are too lazy to open it: | QUOTE (the ****ing readme) | Controls:
Shift/Z/A -- jump Ctrl/X/S -- run Enter -- continue R -- restart room Esc -- exit levels and game Arrow keys -- move and do actions
Changing screen and resolution:
The game will automatically start in fullscreen, if you feel the the screen is too fuzzy press "-" or "0", this will take you out of fullscreen at almost any time (You cannot go in and out of fullscreen during cutscenes. Remember this). Here are all the options:
*/1 -- enter fuzzy fullscreen +/2 -- enter low-res fullscreen (640*480) -/0 -- exit fullscreen
It is recommended to run at low-res fullscreen mode if you want the game to look it's best.
Recent update:
Known glitches:
-Landing on an enemy from really high damages you -Song tempo constantly changes on some computers (Such as mine) I'm still working on a way to fix this -The bomb sound is muted due to sound issues. This will be fixed by the next demo
What you can do in this demo:
I simply can't hold it in any longer. Here's a short demo just to show off how much has changed since the last demo. This is NOTHING compared to how much I've done so far, it is simply a short taste of what's to come. Imagine it as the appetizer before a big meal. Regardless of it's length there are a few things in here I'm sure you guys will be happy about: -you can now enter the second level (Only the first orb is available though) -You can collect all the orbs in the jail level (Yes it's possible) -There is a secret orb hidden somewhere And there ya go that's a total of 6 orbs. Have fun :)
Well that's about it, enjoy the demo! |

| QUOTE | | I clicked the Linkto the Download and it says "Error 22" D: |
Try it now and if it still doesn't work I'll post a mirror
| QUOTE | | Great engine, but somewhat the screen goes to full screen and t doesn't show the whole game screen. |
which fullscreen mode, fuzzy, or low-res?
If it's the low-res fullscreen mode that's causing this I think I know why
| QUOTE | You need to have to detect the resolutions computer's are set too.
Not all computers are using the one you have. |
Yeah that's most likely the issue, need to fix that
| QUOTE | | Also too much friction on the running. |
I'd love to fix that it's just, I'm so used to the engine by now it's hard to get used to something different
Maybe in the final version I'll add an option to change the friction to your liking
| QUOTE | | And too much hiddeness I think... I only played 2 levels but still, when completing the level depends on the hidden stuff, it just gets tiresome to guess and check bunch of stuff, seems more like a chore then anything. |
Don't worry, the final game won't be like this -- when I first posted this project a couple months ago people really liked the exploration hidden throughout the jail level. Now it just feels stale; I already have some really cool platforming-only levels in the works.
Once again thanks for the comments guys
