That's quite a bit of an assumption, though.

But you see my point? While MOSTly responsible, he isn't totally.

For example, would you get onto a kid with gas for... well, you know? Yes, he could have held it in, but he can't help it sometimes...

He probably does have Tourette's, though, for extended bad actions.

You guys also forget to realize that these kids are only five, it's not too unusual for children to act out like that at such a young age really, and knowing he is autistic, that pretty much explains it all right there. The actions taken by the teacher were ludicrous to begin with.

You're still admitting that he is responsible for the most part, which is exactly what I was saying, too. Let's leave it at that.

Don't respond if you can't contribute an actual thought. We don't need you arguing and straying away from the original subject because you don't understand autism.

No, the actions taken by the parents were ludicrous. There is no reason to sue the school board because they were tired of your kid acting up. If the kid hears it from his peers he would be more willing to try to change rather than from adults.

How do you people keep thinking the parents are wrong? I don't see how anyone would even be slightly inclined to think that way.

What the teacher did was wrong. That's basically a fact. She should not have encouraged and allowed the rest of the class to gang up on the kid and say anything negative they wanted to him. The parents have a PERFECT right to be outraged.

I don't think it warrants suing.

But I have to remember that America is sue-happy, so you can sue someone for anything.

Even hiding under a table and squirting salt water onto your shoes. sad.gif

I remember a movie I watched in biology once about an autistic child who became a vegetable, basically, due to it.

It'd help to know what kind of autism he has since there are so many kinds with different levels of severity.

I know what autism is, I have a mild form of it.

It still doesn't matter the kid has autism or whatever the hell else. You don't do what she did. The fact that he had autism just makes it worse.

I had a real ***** of a teacher in 1st grade, Mrs. Elliot. I wasn't a troublemaker, but I had some social issues. She hated me, I hated her. At one point I did something, for the life of me I can't remember what. But at one point she made me sit with my head down on my desk, the lights were off, and she did something I'll never forget-

The entire ****ing class was silent, everyone was focused on me by command of the teacher, making some nasty speech, and she concludes with the phrase, "Let's all laugh at Timothy." And the class in almost robotic unison, says "Ha, ha, ha."

I want to kill that *****. Though I'm guessing she's dead about now.

You said this, which is completely untrue. Autistic people can control their actions and change. Autism makes it harder, sure. But guess what, it doesn't make it IMPOSSIBLE. If the kid even tried to change and stopped doing what he was doing and disrupting the class, he probably could have. Autism is not as large of a problem as people make it out to be.

QUOTE (Gameboy @ Jun 6 2008, 05:15 PM)
This might be wrong, but I agree with having his classmates telling him how annoying he was. I know a kid who is very rambunctuous and annoying, so I'd understand how she'd feel.

He's a kindergardner.

Apparently now diagnosed with autism.

No.

CrashMan: If you honestly think that a 5 year old kid with autism could have complete control over his actions with no previous therapy, then I don't really think you have a clue about autism as you claim. Regardless, it doesn't matter. It doesn't excuse this kind of behavior from someone who is supposed to be a professional.

As for the late diagnosis of autism, both the school's and parent's fault for not checking things out sooner.

A teacher who lacks the patience to deal with kids should not teach. A teacher that would do something like this... it's just unheard of.

I also saw a report on tv about this. The child started dreading school, not wanting to go, so the parents gave their kid a tape recorder, I guess in his backpack or pocket. The things she said to him and about him in front of the rest of the class... no kid no matter how badly behaved deserves that.

I think the whole class might need a little therapy to recover from this bull****.

You said this, which is completely untr-

You can't JUST change, it takes a lot of time and work, and even then, sometimes it won't be as big of a difference. The fact that people are considering he can change the instant this happens is ridiculous. Way to blow that out of proportion though, I understand you need a fun activity here.

I hope something is done for those kids, since now this is probably in their heads that this was all acceptable.
