The Happy Mask Salesman

Not much is known about him, except that he sells masks, and is in great need of recovering the mask that was taken from him. It is also known that his personality is quite strange; there is something mystical about him, but also rather dark. Always happy. As are his masks.
Who is he? What is he? Where did he come from?
First of all, we must analyze the man himself. He's of average height though a bit slouched, has clean reddish-brown hair, and a slight yellow tint to his skin. He obviously likes the color purple as seen by his clothing, and he seems to be able to lift a great load. He slouches only slightly while carrying a massive bag of masks.
He is always happy. Even when he becomes angry, it is short lived. He always has faith; something that few people of Termina have. He seems to have a rather chaotic personality, almost playful, and quite filled with mystery.
Most importantly, he loves masks.
In the Ocarina of Time, he was well-known for selling masks, and the masks always brought happiness as the name of the store would suggest. Notice, though, that this is the only place you can find masks in Hyrule. Masks do not play a very important role in that land. In a land like Hyrule, why would somebody fall so in love with a child's toy of a mask?
Perhaps it is that the Happy Mask salesman is not from Hyrule at all? It would make sense that a person who comes from a land where masks are the entirity of the land's culture would be quite interested in masks. He is also one of the few people who know the way between the worlds; the others being the Skull Kid and Link. It is a logical assumption that the Happy Mask salesman is from Termina.
His goal in the game is to get Majora's Mask back, ultimately saving Termina from destruction.
We know there is that mystic quality sitting in the back of our minds...
Building from some ideas in the 'Tower of Babel' theory, we shall list all the mystical beings we can. The Happy Mask Salesman, the Poe Man, the Music Box man, The Owl, Deku Scrubbs, Skull Kid, the Four Giants, the Triforce Goddesses, the Turtle, the Undead, the Hethen Tribe, Majora, the Great Faeries, the Oni, the Witches, and several others.
Think back to what the Turtle said.
"I too must abide by the ancient laws and again merely watch from my deep slumber."This must mean that some of the greater beings may not interfere upon their own will. Surely if some of these mystic people are titans of some sort, their interference would defy these ancient laws. The Happy Mask salesman must be some sort great being (or 'another being' of sorts) if he is restricted from getting the mask back, himself.
Let us look now, at Majora's Mask itself, still drawing some ideas from the 'Tower of Babel' theory, along with other theories of symbolism in the existence of Boss Battles.
When the mask goes into the moon and posesses it, Link follows and is teleported into some sort of field. This whole field is a symbol, but also existed as a real place. It looks so peaceful; like a haven. Each of the children in this field pretends to be a great being while wearing a mask. What these children don't realize is that their faith lies in their masks, rather than themselves. They can be great beings themselves without the help of masks, but it is these masks they rely upon. Odolwa the Warrior, Goht the Beast, Gyorg the Seadweller, and Twinmold the Monster. Each of these are facades, masking the true Giant in each of them.
When Link defeats each of these masked creatures, he reveals the child behind each mask.
The last child, who we can assume is Majora, was shunned because his mask did not represent anything the children thought of as Great. He sat alone, his scorn and hatred building up inside the mask. His faith in himself turned to contempt, and his mask became the source of his anger...
This field is a parallel to the real world. Where the four Great Spirits (in the form of children) in the haven stood apart from their friend, the same would happen in the physical realm of Termina. Four Giants were created by the will and existence of those childlike spirits, and did the same thing to someone they happened to meet; Skull Kid. While the Skull Kid has no Great parallel, he was a good friend all the same, and felt the same hardships that Majora had.
Meanwhile, Majora, left all alone in the haven, descended into the world that paralleled it. Betrayed, forsaken, his hatred became directed toward the gods; the Goddesses of the Triforce. He knew they'd set him up for failure, and he would have his revenge. He and many others would build the Stone Tower to defile the good name of the Triforce, and show their contempt against the Goddesses. They planned to use a portal to Heaven, along with a Giant's Mask they'd crafted. Majora would become a giant as his friends had, but stand alone, and conquer the Heavens.
The Goddesses flipped the tower as punishment for this unholy deed, and the portal then led to Hell. The Ancient Ones realized how dangerous Majora's Mask really was. If the Goddesses were in danger, they had to help at all costs. Whoever they were, they gathered together and cast Majora's Mask away and sealed it in Hell. The Stone Tower was returned to normal so that it would not give anyone access to the Mask.
Now, Majora, whose hatred had been lost inside the mask, would logically be free from the hatred he bound himself to with the mask, and could return to the world a free, happy soul.
There were those who returned to the Stone Tower ages later, and unsealed the portal to Hell, where they were able to retrieve Majora's Mask.
The Happy Mask salesman could sense the doom that would be brought upon Termina with the mask, and tracked it down to save the land. As the Goddesses were still angered by Termina's lack of faith, and moreso by the hethens against the Triforce, and would do nothing more to stop its destruction. The Happy Mask salesman figured that Hyrule would be a safe place to keep the mask, as Hyrule hadn't already been forsaken.
Unfortunately, he defied the Ancient Laws as a mystic being himself, and his deed only turned for the worse as the Skull Kid stole the mask from him.
Thus, the Happy Mask salesman turned to Link for help.
"Ho, ho, ho. You have done some good work... Keep up that pace. I am counting on you to get my mask..."Notice the word he uses.
My mask.
Also notice his clean, reddish-brown hairstyle.
And his slightly yellow skin.
Remember somebody who looked exactly like that?
[Lawl, stolen bandwidth.]
Majora regained the faith in himself, and had faith in Link that he would return the mask. Link restored faith into the world of Termina, and gave the Giants the faith in themselves that they needed so desparately.
When the thoughts and feelings of hatred in Majora's Mask had been satisfied by Link playing with him, the mask no longer had any reason to be hateful. It returned to normal, and Majora was able to take back his mask in peace.
