My entry for Minigame Competition #36 (Koopas). Play through this platformer as a koopa, and retreat into your shell to kill goombas, and smash bricks.

32600; I got to the cloud level

I rather dislike the game reset after you die (which is a very easy thing to do). I'd also like to see more puzzles. There are lots of things you could do with the shell powerups.

I severly hope that this is a work in progress.
No sound=-5 points
One life game-over=-3 points
Overused graphics=-1 point

6/15 points. That's not good. Oh, and I could barley make it past the first level...

Isn´t this made with HEIII? Cause if it is, you´re not allowed to use engines that got made before the competition.

It looks and plays a lot like Hello Engine.
He probably didn't use the actual engine, but copypasta'd a lot from it (copy pasting some code is actually allowed, but it'll make your game very similar to existing engines if you overdo it, so you could still decide not to vote for his entry because you don't like the overused graphics, overused engine, etc)

And agree with the rest.
That one-life thing is a bit frustrating. This doesn't play like a classic "how far do you get" game, so it shouldn't be treated as one.
And IF you keep that one-life thing, you should make the restarting faster because having to go through all the logos and title screen and the plot is a pain and kills the replay value.

Also: There's other games than SMB3 to rip graphics from.

I enjoyed it. However, I did not like having to squeeze into those small areas. It starts off slow, but once you get the golden shell, everything rocks.

It's a nice idea for a game, but It's not what I would call a mini-game, more like a small platform game.

Anyway,
One thing I noticed from the start was that when you got hit by a goomba and died, it was quite sudden. It would help if you had some kind of death "animation" when you get killed(Like then normal fall up and down trough the ground)

Getting into tight spaces was kind of hard. At the start i kept trying to get into the first small hole with four blocks after getting bounces back out by the last block, and just could not get back in, so I had to restart the game before it let me get in again.

Shell power ups was nice too, I have only seen the red once so far, but I will play some more later and find out other(I heard something about a golden shell power up)
Getting the red shell was kinda nice, because the shell slowing down was getting kind of tiresome, but the red shell power up fixed that =)

Oh, and one last thing i noticed, one life? get us some more tries before restarting the game, and I would find it MUCH more interesting trying to get further wink.gif

Anyway, so far it looks like a good "mini"-game, the graphics seems to be from one game, and not a collection of different graphic types.
The music sounds good(Not too high, or low), and the sounds fit in nicely. The looping music sounds a bit off when restarting the music, but that's not a big issue.

It felt kinda nice. A bit slippery, and it was tough getting through small holes. Besides that, however, I think the only thing that I was really bothered by was that you only got one life before you died. I jumped too far, thinking that I would make it past two pits instead of one, and my punishment turned out to be that I had to restart the whole game up until that point? :P

Add a few extra lives and you're on the right track, fella. biggrin.gif
