there's a program called lateral gamemaker that can convert GMK to GM6 and GMD so you can work on it to, heres the link http://www.ismavatar.com/lgm/download.php

however it does not support converting back to GMK so someone who uses GM7 will have to do that for you.

P.S. ignore the program's slogan, it has nothing to do with the actual program

not necessarily, GM7 doesn't even work on my comp, plus this can be used to edit GM7 games to, but you can't test them.

However, I do like this very much. I hate how slow Game Maker 7 can be sometimes. Plus the filesizes are big... hey! How about the filesizes, are they changed to reflect normal GM6 filesizes?

yes, GMK files are huge because there is encryption on it, GM6 files are not encrypted, therefore the conversion process will remove the encryption and decrease the file size
