You canīt convert anything to midi, since midis use calls to internal sound channels, which makes it extremely limited, and wav etc are unlimited.

It's possible, but the quality is absolutely awful and I only know of one that's free.

Unfortunately, it has an even worse quality the the ones you have to pay for.

Oh, well. I guess I could just forget about converting midis, then.

QUOTE (Latia @ Jun 20 2008, 03:55 PM)
You can't convert anything to midi

uh you can convert pretty much any sequenced music into a midi file

they'll probably sound like **** if they didn't use general midi instruments themselves but it's possible

it IS possible to convert wavs into midis, but it'll be highly inaccurate because the converter has to figure out frequencies, timing, and who knows what else by itself... good luck getting decent results out of anything with more than one instrument; it's like trying to convert a jpg to a psd with multiple layers... the best you can do is guess which parts of the image should be on separate layers, but there will be "holes" in the other layers where certain information doesn't exist

Like xgoff said, current wave to midi software is intended for single instruments only (like recording yourself playing the piano or the guitar, then converting it to MIDI), and even then the process is likely to be error-prone.

Once multiple instruments are introduced, they interfere with each other and the software cannot discern what is going on.
