GUYS GUYS!
I have already said:
I MADE THE FRIGGIN ENGINE ALREADY. READ THE FIRST POST, DAMMIT!

Also the screenshot is taken FROM my engine, so you have a pattern of how big the ball, bricks and bat should be.
Bricks: 16x8
Ball: 9x9
Bat: 64x8

I'm sorry if that was unclear, but still, it would have been pretty obvious if you had read the first post carefully.

Other than that: I love xn--e5x's midis and Flamedragon made the only suitable bricks so far.
I like your enthusiasm, but it is un-organized. If you don't listen to instructions, the new CFP will fail like the last one.

Also I have not seen a single claim on the sprites you made, you just made them and threw them in. For what did I write rules?

I made a claim in my first post. I hope I followed the rules, I read 'em carefully.
Also, what about my bricks? Me and Dex said we could use the bricks both of us have made for different types of levels. :/

He didn't mean my bricks :/

They're the template ones, though I don't see what's wrong with yours.

I'll talk to Guinea later and see, alright?

Alright.
Also, I'll sprite some ball power ups, but don't expect them 'til later today, since I'll be away for a little while.

QUOTE (Guinea @ Jun 27 2008, 02:47 AM)
We have seen that engine making is the biggest problem of the community in the last CFP.
This is why I decided to make a basic engine that is easily customizable for everyone.
If you are an advanced programmer you can edit it to your liking, if you are not so advanced, you can still add bricks and other things to it.
Also I've said from the beginning that I have already made an engine, so why did you make an engine yourself? Oh did you not read the first post? Maybe that's why.

The old CFP failed. Why do you think it would be a good idea to make the new one the same way as the old one, with everyone throwing out engines that nobody can work with?

Sorry if I sound harsh though. I just want you guys to listen to simple instructions, because that's what "organizing" means. Otherwise it would be chaos and we don't want that, do we?

I read your post I didn't see anywhere about having an engine when I started mine, and imo my engine was a hell of a lot easier to understand and work with than your engine.

I'm going to start adding the brick animations to Guinea's right now though if that's okay.

Your bricks were too big. But then again as long as they are a multiple of 16x8 (the original bricks) we could still use them.

Flamedragon was the only one to actually take the sprites from Dex as a pattern while everyone else made randomly sized bricks, this is why I was upset.

But as I said, we can also use bigger sprites as long as they match in the 16x8 grids.
Same goes for the bars of course.

Describe the glitches. It might be the fault of Lateral GM, because when I played the engine it had no glitches.

EDIT: Oh wait, whose engine did you mean?

I think he meant my engine, I had the ball speed set a little high and used a temporary code for going outside of the room(since I knew walls would be added) and that caused that ball to be able to leave through the two top corners.

Oh ok. Well my engine is not as easy to understand perhaps, but it is not needed to understand every single code.
I've made functions for the engine makers to use. As I said, to make a dozen of different bricks, you do not need to change any code at all in my engine as everything's basically there already.

If you want bricks with more power, say so in the creation event.
If you want bricks that are invincible from one side or the other, say so in the creation event.
If you want a brick to make the ball faster, say so in it's destruction event.
etc etc.

Just look at the creation codes of the ball, bat and brick and you will know what values you can change in the bricks' destruction events to give the player power-ups/downs.

actually your engine doesn't work unless you use GM7

it says you left out assignment operator on line 8 at the 12th position on "game_setup_main"
gm6 doesn't support globalvar

Oh. Well if that's the case we'll use oldschool globals.
Nobody touch the engine until I updated!!

I had an idea, maybe we could have a powerup system like Mario Kart?

Crappy example included.

Yes, we can.

Somebody with GML skills and who thinks to fully understand my code can try to implement a system that lets you store and use items.

Everyone who has no idea what my code actually does should NOT try to implement that, however can add power-ups to use once the item system has been established by somebody.

... when the engine is back up.

Oh those.
They also look exactly like Dex's...
Anyway, they're the right size. Try to make them more different perhaps.

AND ALSO: UPDATE.

The engine is now version 0-1-0. It should be compatible with gm6 now.
I also added instructions on how to create a brick in the Help File of the game.

I just read the rules! Yay!

I think that I'll help with spriting some ****.

EDIT: I have an idea. An item that turns the ball into a meteor, speeding it up, making it harder to hit with the paddle, and it would break multiple blocks at a time.

I tried to make mine less Hue shifted like Dex's. Other than my color choices, I thought they were pretty different.
But, I'm not here to argue. What kind of things do you suggest I do to make them more different?
