I got my Nintendo Wii a few days ago, and I've finally gotten the Shop Channel up and running. But I have a few questions about downloading games with the Wii points...

*I know you buy point cards in order to download the games, but exactly how do I make sure my system recieves the points?

*Do I need any special controllers in order to play the classic games? (The ones on the systems like NES, N64 and Master System)

*If I buy the Internet for a channel, do I keep the Internet feature on my Wii for as long as I keep my Wii?

* I'm pretty sure about this... but you also get to keep any downloaded games for as long as you keep a Wii?

Heh, yeah, I'm a N00b with new technology. :P But I really need help so I can figure out if I want to invest some money into Wii Points.

GameCube controllers work on all but some TurboGraphix games, and Wiimote works on all NES games, and nothing else. And yes, keep them as long as you want.

Also, I should slap you right now for not reading the Wii Manual.

On the Wii Shop Channel, there should be an option near the bottom to Add Wii Points.

You can either charge to a credit card or use a store-bought point certificate.

If you buy a point card from a store, you only need to input the card's serial number on your Wii Shop Channel to add the points.

Each game's page will tell you which controllers it is compatible with. If you buy a Virtual Console controller, it will be compatible with every game. Otherwise, your best bet is the GameCube controller, if you have one -- it will work with most VC games.

Nintendo's server remembers which Wii serial numbers have downloaded which items from the Shop Channel. Because of this, once you purchase the right to download a feature, you will always be able to download that feature on the same Wii console without having to pay for it again. Downloaded items also stay on the Wii console until they are manually deleted.

It also means you can modify your Wii's serial number to steal Shop items, which would be a very rude thing to do.
