Why is it that Sony Vegas mutilates mp4 files when Vegas Movie Studio, its underling, supports them with no problem whatsoever? I need to know how to import mp4s into Vegas, because when I download videos from youtube, that's the format they're in (it's better than flv) and I don't want to convert each and every one of them. There has to be a way to import mp4s into an expensive program such as this, and I'd like to know how. If, by any chance, there IS no way to import them, I'd like to know why. Because that's just bull****.

Thanks

I don't understand the reasoning here ... is there any particular logic that more money --> better program?

I mean, I guess you should expect a program that cost more to make to be a bit better and cost more to purchase, but ... that doesn't mean it will support everything that a lower-priced product for the same media can. It's a complete logical blunder.

Klik products are more expensive than GameMaker, and they cannot support GameMaker files. Is that bull****?

EDIT: As for actually helping, it appears that *.mp4's arrive in a whole bunch of different wrappers, affecting whether Vegas can import them or not. <-- draco pay attention, *.mp4's are apparently apple files and not sony files

MP4 can arrive in a number of different wrappers. Does QT open the MP4 for you? If so, you might change the file extension to .mov and allow Quicktime to decode it for you in Vegas.
it might be a unique player required for the mp4, who encoded it?

convert the mp4 to something else

I understand your reasoning but Vegas Movie Studio and Vegas Pro are from the same company, meaning they should support the same files. And it lets you render files as mp4s, so why won't it import them?

Also I don't want to convert because that's like adding an extra step when Sony could've just pulled the stick out of its ass and made Vegas support mp4s.

Oh ... you should've said that ohmy.gif

I'm not really sure since I can't verify my readings and sometimes they sound a bit vague, but either:
  • You have to do something weird with Quicktime for Vegas to read it
  • You need to hope you get the right kind of mp4 for Vegas to read

I don't know if Mp4's come in codecs per say. It'd make sense if they did. If they do, then Vegas can't import an mp4 that's in a codec it doesn't recognize, assuming it supports mp4's.

Now as to why one program will recognize the codec and another won't I have no idea ...

It's probably gay. That has to be it.
