This is not important but i'm just trying to obtain information. Most people with computers or similar should know what this is..Keep in mind bigger isn't always better and HDTV resolutions are not 4:3 but widescreen or 16:9, 16:10.

256x224 or 320x240 window works for me.

EDIT: And I'm pretty sure, that most people are going to vote for two last choices (like me).

I'm thinking the standard would be 320 x 240 or 640 x 480.

But yeah, as long as the game itself looks and plays well, then that's the major thing for me.

I make all my games in 320x240, because I don't bother making hi-res sprites.

yea i was wondering why you said 640x480. Consoles games(snes/etc) are made in 640x480. Also, not to mention in 320 x 240 the scrolling rate is much smoother. Sync that with your monitor refresh rate, and you have a very fluid looking game.

I might switch to 640x480 though,(or something generally bigger, maybe 500 x 200), so you can actually see more of the level, and not limited to a small range of sight.(which means you can have more puzzles, and harder levels since you can see more). if your making a sonic game, or fast-pace game, you better use 320 x 240 though.

wow 256x224 seems small, but high-resed at 512 x 448, I guess made me think it was larger

Don't you mean framerate?I get smooth images when framerate is the same as my moniters refresh rate.Resolution doesn't actually play a role cause if your moniter is at 1024x768 70hz you run your game/etc at 70fps your image should be smooth with little or no signs of choppiness.I think most games for the N64 ran around 320x240 cause of hardware limitations(although it is capable of going 640x480).Last thing is the Gamecube was able to run 640x480 natively. The Wii(graphics) is derived from the Gamecube architecture.640x480 isn't very big for some SNES sprites cause they don't look small in that resolution.720x480 is the Widescreen for that resolution(i think).

Sorry for double post but to answer your question SDTV's are TV's that use SD resolutions. Some TV's use OverScan or Double/etc.When the game is loaded the image is either Scaled to run in that resolution or some other process.Keep in mind CRT moniters("bulky"moniters)normally can natively display 1920x1080.These moniters will simply require lower refresh rates to achieve higher vertical resolutions.Your small moniter compared to a SDTV will display higher resolutions.

They were resized to fit the screen ratio.

SNES runs in 256x224, and I prefer making games in that resolution.

I find the smaller it is, the better. They're sprites, they're gonna be small, so the window should be too.

A resolution similar to a console's that fits the choice in graphics.

Or whatever works best for that particular game.

It seems the most prefered resolution(beside last 2 options)is 320x240.Strangly that resolution seems small to me(unless fullscreen).Small resolutions makes small things look big.Big resolutions make small things look smaller.
The 2nd last option was somewhat predicted to get most votes.
