Say I wanted to change one image on a page into another completely different image, what would the the CSS code for this be?

The only thing CSS can do in this manner is change the image on a hover (mouseover.)

If you want to use disappearing div's or something, you'll need Java or Javascript in addition to CSS.

No I mean take a normal image and make it into another image. say I'm using Freewebs and want to remove the hideous default banner to replace it with a better one how would I do that?

if the image has a class or id value (it should), you should be able to use display: none to hide it

but iirc doing that's against the TOS
