| QUOTE (Pucifur @ Jul 12 2008, 07:13 PM) | Donkey Kong Country To me... it just feels like a run of the mill platformer with fuzzy graphics and monkeys. I know I'll get lots of flak for mentioning this game, but I've just never had fun playing it. |
OH fun I HATE DONKEY KONG COUNTRY. GODDAMN smileTY PLATFORMER WITH PRETTY GRAPHICS.
DKC2 and DKC3 are awesome though.
| QUOTE (MegaMan @ Jul 12 2008, 04:22 PM) | actually lemme explain myself
Phoenix Wright This isn't even a game. It's a book with probably the most annoying characters of all time. People credit it for having one of the most epic storylines in a game ever, but that's only because the characters are abso-funing-lutely ridiculous, so you can take whatever liberty you want with them and the suspension of disbelief is no problemo. Can't talk much about the gameplay. Like I said, it's a book. If you want a real portable adventure game, go play Hotel Dusk, or the Broken Sword remake for the GBA.
And the fanbase is the worst I've seen. Rivals Kingdom Hearts and any anime fan in the department of useless coupling, rivals Earthbound when it comes to self-victimizing fans who think virtually NOBODY has played the game they're obsessing over, and rivals Portal when it comes to shouting certain lines out of context.
Shadow of the Colossus "THIS GAME IS ARTTTTT IF YOU DONT PLAY IT GO JUMP OFF A CLIFF"
Disgaea xD horse weiners are so randum i luv animu and demons theyre dark and mysterious for dark people liek me prinny dood XD;;;;
Pokemon Red/Blue Unplayable garbage. A lot of games are hit with the aging bat, and this one got hit harder than most. The remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen, are superior because of the fact that, for one updated graphics are always pretty. Two, updated system. While I'm not a fan of the hidden values and stats a Pokemon is born with and the fact that you have little to no control over, I AM pleased that they took out the fire spin / wrap ******ry. What the fun. As a kid, whenever that smile happened, I turned the game the fun off. I didn't even care if I haven't saved recently.
Also, psychic types don't dominate everything! Thanks to a lot of Pokemon having access to a dark-type attack (Bite has been changed to it.. for whatever reason. I guess biting someone exudes a DARRRRK power or something), psychic types don't automatically = rape.
So take your nostalgia goggles off
Soul Calibur III The character creation mode was the sole reason I got this game. And what I got, was a remarkably shallow character creation mode that made it virtually impossible to make a character that didn't look completely butt ugly. Wowwww and I have to unlock more fighting styles for my custom character from the all new (and dull) Chronicles of the Sword mode. Essentially, it's a real-time strategy mode in which you engage in real time battles whenever one of your units bumped into an enemy unit on the map. As your unit won battles, they gained experience and grew stronger. However, the downside to this is that if you want to make a ton of characters, you can only choose to level four at a time while the rest of your characters will be level 1 near the end of the game. And you NEED to level characters if you want to unlock new fighting styles for custom characters. A definite no no.
Plus the Chronicles mode was just boring. The cutscenes were either you-can-smell-the-low-production-costs text explaining what was happening in the story (which I don't even care for, these text intermissions usually consisted of quotes from random generals in history), or remarkably cheesy dialogue, complete with voice acting. Gameplay wasn't anything to write home about either, all you had to do was park yourself somewhere, and wait for enemies to advance in, picking them off one by one before finally heading for the boss.
As far as the actual fighting game goes, the game was broken, enough said. If you picked Sophitia, you won, or if you button mashed, you won. |
I agree with you about Pheonix Wright, it really is a smilety game with smilety animu characters and a terrible fanbase. Hotel Dusk has a ten times better story and more realism and an amazing style.
I couldn't get into Shadow of the Colossus. I was wandering around for an hour and didn't find smile so I just let one of my friends borrow it and haven't seen (or cared to get it back) since.
and disgaea is pretty smilety. I bought it twice (PS2 AND PSP) hoping that somehow I could get into it. I WAS WRONG
and Red/Blue are awful games. Pokemon really is a smilety RPG, but Red/Blue is the worst of them. no wait, I take that back, Ruby/Sapphire are the worst. but Red/Blue was broken as fun. Psychic killed EVERYTHING, NO EXCEPTIONS.
I can't speak for Soul Calibur III though, I played it a tiny bit over a friends house and made this cool dude with an extendo stick, but didn't play any of the other modes.

Oh can i can i please? I love it when i play a popular game and find it so horrific that i can't help but wonder if people who like it are blind or something. You know... i played Superman64 and daikatana. And yet without any doubt i call Sonic Adventure 2 the worst 3d game i ever played. When i was done with it (someplace in the final story, just couldn't play it any longer. Well, i would've quit way sooner if i wasn't determined to find at least something cool or enjoyable) i wrote a freaking review of it, as full of sarcasm and iceburn as i could make it. I was even more shocked when people literally called me crazy/stupid for pointing out how bad lots of aspects of this game were. I can understand people defending a game they like, but WHO could like it in the first place? Well, lots of people do, and that makes me seriously concerned and puzzled. Well but anyway our russian sonic fans are absolutely retarded and crazy, which is a well backed up statement. Oh and SA2<SA1<Heroes (i liked heroes very much and enjoyed it way more).
And from the 2d games i played, judging by gameplay and overall fun, both EWJ games are the worst i ever played (i do like the grapchis and the style though), and i played some of the games reviewed by AVGN (friday13, elm street, mckids, even bible adventures). The kirby games come close to EWJ too, even though i don't like their grapchic styles.
Oh and i'm not trolling, i'm being absolutely serious in case somebody doesn't believe me. I'm not even interested in the reaction to this, i just like to let things like those out when given the opportunity.

I was not terribly impressed with Adventure 2, but I didn't hate it and it was certainly not one of the worse games I've played.
I have this to say -- until you become a ninja at the game, it's very unforgiving. The level design is rather haphazard and the missions quickly become very frustrating. The dialogue is ... questionable at best, a horror at worst.
The main reason people like that game is that when Rouge walks out of the Chao Kindergarten without holding something her knockers bounce like nothing else.

I actually thought MC Kids was awesome. I had this game long before AVGN was around and I loved it. I will never forget that first level theme, it was amazing.
I was upset that if you ran out of lives you lost all your progress, but collecting extra lives was pretty easy.
And while Kirby's Adventure was a pretty crappy game, the subsequent games improved dramatically, although the difficulty is horribly unbalanced for almost all of them.
