does not compute
anyway I'm gonna have to agree with fuzz on the whole brawl thing, on a score of how much it disappointed me. I mean some games are downright horrid, but I usually go in expecting horrid (for instance, if you go set out to play a game you know is bad, like that atari game where custer ****s an indian girl or a modern sonic game, you know not to expect a brilliant gaming experience). with brawl we were promised a sort of end-all be-all ultimate super smash bros. experience and what we got was melee with a few characters nerfed, more items, tinier items, more levels, noisier levels, more over-the-top attacks, overall not so much improved. of course hyping it as "more of melee with more useless ****!" would give questionable sales figures so
I could mention NiGHTS 2 in a similar sense here, but the difference would be that I knew full well they'd **** it up the whole time. I hoped that they wouldn't all through its development, but I knew they would. and they did. it's sonic team. so no big let-down, no surprises. it definitely had the potential were they to make some moderate design changes like the removal of dialogue and the ****ing owl, and implementing a level progression that makes sense. overall it was not a huge disappointment, more like par for the course given the context

"pirate developers" ??? what are we using the word pirate to describe here I know it to be used to describe: 1. plunder at sea 2. illegally copying licensed works
are you talking like the SMW for NES, Super 1998 Sonic whatever and the Mario game for the Genesis, etc.? 'cuz I mean those are unlicensed sure, and they've got questionable copyright issues sure, and they are on consoles, and they tend to have ****ty gameplay, but aren't they fangames at heart?

Well back in the NES era you needed the nintendo Seal to release a game which is why the quality of the cases for pirate games are usually..
A. Old cases B. Weird ones, like the Spiritual Warfare ones, the Golden multigame carts...
For the most part it fell under B, and therefore at the time it was illegally copying licensed works.

yeah the multigame carts are obvious cases of software piracy considering they were reselling many games together that they didn't have the rights to
