So I decided to suck it up and finally get WinRAR so I can finally open those pesky .rar files.

But I can't find it. :[

I recommend http://www.7-zip.org/
it can open RAR files as well as several other formats, and it's Free (unlike WinRAR)

when I say Free I use it in the context of "freedom" like "free speech"
not just free in the context of "price" like "free beer"

7-zip is Free Software. that's distinct from freeware.
