Yeah, back when I was in middle school, I used to draw for an art class, so here are a couple of my works from waaay back then.

The second image is a paperweight my dad gave to me. Here's a pic of it for reference. BTW I had it standing on its side when I drew it.

Woah, those look nice. Better than I could draw. But the shading on the apple looks like it kinda...stops.

Not bad! I'm only capable of doing that kinda shading when I'm drawing hair.

I'm not sure if this is of any use now because it sounds like you've stopped drawing, which is a shame ... but I would work on contrast-you can make the darkest parts of the apple such as near the edge much darker, and as a result the rest of the apple wouldn't be pure white as you can extend the lighter tones over. The paper weight's a bit weird looking (... both real and sketch XD) I would suggest use of tones to differentiate between the materials and colors, it's also made out of plastic (or glass?) so you can make it very interesting by shading it according to that.

edit: Oops, I didn't see your knife before hand, zomg draw more!11

I was disappointed by the scans, the shading on the apple is much heavier than it looks in the pic, actually. I've also never been good at tweaking shading styles for different types of materials(plastic, glass, metal, etc.). It's something I still need work on.
