I actually think the tree is contrasting too much with the original idea of the image. To me, it looked like a very far zoom of a landscape. The new tree ruins the perspective and makes the area seem much smaller.

the "mountain issue" would pretty much be fixed if they were more washed-out looking (try dropping their darkest shade, or even a few of the darkest ones; you'll pretty much lose all your shading work but you have to make sacrifices on stuff, unfortunately)

right now they look pretty damn close to the scene (as mentioned by draco) since there's practically no atmospheric haze effect on them; if they were really far away, there would be a lot of it

EDIT: it looks like you have background mountains that follow this, but the foreground ones still look too close
