After hearing this I was duly impressed. He said he used a program called Addmusic to import a decomposed midi into Mario World, then ripped the SPC.

How does one do this? I want to experiment. And is Mario World the only rom you can do this with?

Super Mario World is the only ROM you can add music to with Addmusic.
The first result on google seems informative enough, I guess.
