10 year old Janet Ramirez drowns while none of the 4 lifeguards pays attention, 2 of which were texting, another on break, and the last was fooling around with some of the kids.

Poor Lifeguards! They must be so upset! Now they'll have to think about this moment every time they try to text while children drown!

Sort of reminds me of that story from that game store clerk site where that criminal that stabbed someone and walked through a mall coolly stealing items was completely unnoticed by security. (This may be slightly more inexcusable, though, since it's known that the lifeguards were pretty much right there.)


EDIT: But come to think of it, the one on break might not have been to blame - depends on if he was away from the scene at the time. People are allowed to have breaks, after all, and the other three should have been enough.

Agh, FIRE THEIR ASSES.

Oh. Well, he is probably partly to blame, then. Though it might not be as much as the others are, because he might have not thought to look out for people since he was off-duty.

I'd have to say that lifeguard being on break reduces the fault on his/her part significantly.

Of course news stories are always played up to make you mad or startle you.

Reminds me of when my mother saved my kid brother when he was just a little toddler from drowning in an inflatable pool at my grandparents' house in Belgium while there were others present not paying attention.
It could have happened twice, but I'm not sure. My brain has limited disk-space...

I kind of half-wonder if she knew how to swim and if that contributed to her drowning.

Nonetheless, truly a shame. I hope the little girl live a good life, despite how abrupt it ended.
