You can't.
You just have to use a sprite image and put it in the background by giving it maximum density.

Or you could give the effect of an animated background by putting in multiple background layers that are moving at different speeds and/or in different directions.

If you wanted to do things the hard way you could make an object that's screen size, animate it and place it in the background. Then you just have to have it follow you around like a HUD.

Or you could set an object that has it's alarm[0] set to 1

and every alarm segment it detects what image it is currently using, and then changes the image to the next image in the animation. I'd give an example in code, but I don't really know the background variables that well.

Use this code!

Create Event:
CODE
alarm[0] = 9

Alarm 0:
CODE
if background_index[0] = bg_1
background_index = bg_2
if background_index[0] = bg_2
background_index = bg_3
if background_index[0] = bg_3
background_index = bg_4
if background_index[0] = bg_4
background_index = bg_1
alarm[0] = 9

Hope this helps you!

Thanks, DarkYoshi. It did help.

How do you make different layers of background? (Sorry, I don't know too much about this stuff)
