I like the country flag system. Although people should be truthful about their location, it wouldn't hurt if a few members selected false countries just for the purpose of having fun.

QUOTE (Risa Onda @ Aug 18 2008, 05:03 PM)
Eh, just saying that it's not really a big deal. There are always people that will use it correctly, and there are always people that won't.

...Didn't he just explain to you why it does matter?

Let's just put it this way.

Would BS, Techokami, RII, or whoever was involved with this, have implemented this feature if they knew it wouldn't accurately reflect what country people were from? Would they have worked to add an entire modification for the boards that would only end up potentially being pointless and used for unfunny "jokes"?

I'm not them, but I think I can confidently say that they made this feature for a serious reason - to make it easier to tell people's countries. If the purpose is defeated by people insisting on trying (and failing) to be funny, then it would essentially amount to wasted effort on their part, since they would have made something that would have ended up not worthwhile from their point of view.

That's why it is a big deal, and why people like me should be allowed to complain about the abusers.

The fact that you keep inserting "well their not funny !!!" into your description of the jokes makes it even more obvious that you're just expressing your opinion.

Please don't try to get people banned for your opinions, Grant. Most people still use it accurately, but that doesn't mean we have to CRACK DOWN on people who don't. The matter, as per usual, is far, far less serious than you make it out to be.

Not everyone is doing it to make some kind of joke, you know. I think you're overreacting. As Phage said, we don't need to crack down on anything like this. It's silly.

It's not pointless. The purpose of the country flag system is learn about the location of the members in our community.

Oh, and no one would do this for any reason besides "humor", except if they were doing it to protest about how useless the feature allegedly is (like CrashMan is apparently doing).

We don't need people trying to spit on the efforts of the higher-ups to make this place cooler, any more than we need people cancelling out the same efforts in order to attempt humor.

Uh, I dunno. I used the Icelandic flag for a while because I like my Icelandic heritage, not because I thought it'd be the most hilarious thing ever. Besides showing current location, people could use them to show where they were born/where they're from, or to simply show their heritage. That's not abuse of the system at all. You can't say that EVERYONE who uses the "wrong" flags are doing it because they think it's hilarious.

A) Black Squirrel only made the icons. I did all the mod work.
B) To put it bluntly:
YES
C) I want to see a forum that DOES determine country icons based on IP. As far as I know, even in later versions of Invision Power Board, it is manually selected by the member.

The second one. I had fun doing it - even though I hit a few snags along the way. And besides, at least it's making people happy.

Am I not allowed to make people happy?
