You mean like a guide book? That could work, but someone would have to playthrough the game and know it's inner workings.


EDIT- Oh wait, you mean that new helping system thing? I don't think that'd work out so well I mean, we are giving the player plenty of hints and items to keep them alive after all.

(It would technically be possible to include the super guide in this game in the form of a timeline that presses Mario's buttons, but I don't really think it's worth the effort, and would only work if we do not use randomized stuff.)

I have a boss idea:Molten sworm. Its a giant red sworm with a long stem. He spends most of the battle in a pit of lava.

BATTLE: he has 5 attacks. the 3 common ones are bite, fire balls, and fire breath. After cycling through those three for a while, he bangs the ceiling with his head, causing rocks to fall on the platform the player is standing on. Most rocks will bounce off the platform, but some will stay.
After the rock attack, molten sworm will charge up for a sec, and his entire body will jump out of the lava. His jump has almost dead-on accuracy, so be careful.

To hurt him, make him land on a rock. After he face-plants on a rock, a bulb thing on the end of his stem lights up.Hit it and he will get hurt and jump back into the lava. repeat 5 times.

Sounds like we're going to be making a new character exclusively for Super Guide, so I thought I'd throw a few suggestions out there.

Toad would be one of the easiest characters to sprite, as we could just make a single spritesheet and then palette-swap it for each of the ability sets. I think Yellow Toad might have to carry around a big hammer or something to replace Wario's charge attack (he'd swing it like Kirby Super Star's running Y hammer attack).

I wanted to submit another example for consideration: the Mini-Gadd. This wind-up toy comes in four varieties: cosmic suction hands, propeller, plow-tank, and looks-ordinary-but-transforms-into-suitcase. I mention the Mini-Gadd because our Super Guide is going to use the DSe's technology, and this character fits the theme better than Toad.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I like both of those ideas, it's hard to choose.

I think mini-Gadd would definitely fit the DSe theme, though.

From these I might even choose the mini gadds.
And we can unlock those as playable maybe, since we'd have both the sprites AND the character objects supporting them 100% done. So no extra work required.

Also, maybe since DSi's can have apps, why not make it if you die 10 times on a level Gadd sends you the superguide app?

I think it would be cool if the DSe teleported you away, and then a toy version of the character you were using is sent into the level to play it.

I agree that they should be playable, but only as alt. costumes. And probably not in levels that are really important that would require a cutscene or something. At least not on the first play through of it.

Remember the ring idea that SGG had?

maybe the mini gadds can sub for it.

Like, a mini gadd can use all of the bros powers and can switch at will.

And we can just use my toy idea for the super guide.

I just picked a suitcase because it's funny to see robots transform into a suitcase. smile.gif Anything that's thin enough to fit through small gaps will do. I think it'd be okay for the suitcase to walk along at the angle shown until it got close enough to a hole, though. I'll try spriting it later. 2. He can't attack spear enemies from the side at all.
3. He holds items above his head.
4. He doesn't sink when moving horizontally underwater.

Maybe the wheels transform into floats? Oh, and before I forget -- we can always change this later, but for now -- change plow to steamroller. Can't believe I didn't think of that earlier.

I figured they'd all look alike (aside form the light on their heads) up until you use their abilities. For example, you hit ctrl with Mini Warigadd, and he changes for his charge, then changes back.
