Very nice =D

Though, the one spot where you fixed the ouline, on the inside, make the black pixel another red one, so the outline is solid.
And if you want, you can make part of the outline the darkest red shade, where it's brightest on the sprite.

But it looks really good now.

Done and done. It's so subtle, I won't repost it. :U

Are mushrooms the same size as coins?

I'd make them a little bigger, but that's just me.

Question: Is there any hue-shifting in the style?
I noticed that Mario seems to have a tiny bit for the red, but is it part of the style?

I would say there is some, but it's only really on Mario, and some more of Dex's stuff.
I say if the colors of the existing sprites aren't working for you, use hue-shifting only if you need to. Anything close to what there is now should be fine.

Tbh, you really only need to put the wings from goonie closer together, and paste koopa over it.
