Wait wait, I know this is kinda offtopic, but you mean Lua has any sort of a "tostring()' function? That function's actually pretty similar to any other common language out there, and I kept thinking Lua was too weird and different from the others.

A beta will arrive soon featuring normal maps. This is a huge addition I've wanted to see for a long time so I'm a bit excited about it :D

Normal map support is still in development. There's going to be a beta update out for it today for the beta participants.

MechaSource is in closed beta testing.

Being the noob I am, I don't really get how to program in this way yet.

I'd suggest making tutorials like the ones for GameMaker - tutorials that come with an example, that guides you through the process of remaking the example, and explaining how every piece of the coding works, and how you can use it in other ways

Definitely. The only problem with step-by-step tutorials is they take time- time I could be spending expanding. I'll try to get a step-by-step tutorial out asap.

As a note, if anyone else has made an example, simple app or tutorial I'd love to see it and include it in an update

You could also try to get some people that know lots about Lua (and MechaSource), and let them develop the tutorials.
