QUOTE (Nnnk @ Aug 23 2008, 06:49 PM)
When you were talking about the quality control does that mean if you upload it?
Because I know my friends are going to want to mess with this, and some of them are grade-A creative.

Games made using the MechaSource engine will obviously need the MechaSource engine in order to run. But when you've made a game it isn't public acessable for anyone to play. This is why we have the release system.

In your Developer CP there's a button called "release game". It allows you to submit your game to the MechaSource Service where there will be a validation system. If it gets validated it will be listed on the Download page and other users can download it and play it.
After you've released your game you will be able to update it.

QUOTE (Admiral Delmore)
So if I was making a game in MMF2, I wouldn't be able to this, or I would? Cuz I like programming my own engines here!

No, MechaSource is entirely independant and is in no way connected with MMF2.
edit: But what you do in MechaSource is also programming your own engine. We just provide templates you can use, just like the Platform Movement in MMF2.

We just provide templates you can use, just like the Platform Movement in MMF2.

If you mean that platform movement object(or at least a static engine that's not too complex to understand or simply edit), then I think I'm in. That thing left a huge load off of me in MMF2 so I could work on "programming" other things.

(and what I meant by my earlier MMF2 question was simply if it'd be as hard to jump from MMF/2 type programming to MechaSource as it would to, say, go from MMF/2 to C++ or other things with real scripting, but it sounds like it would be)

I hate to ask too many questions, but this should be the last one I hope. Would the engine have issues with making a game that featured multiple playtypes or entire genres?(even if they shared some basic things like level complete screens or some but not all the status bar elements) I guess that'd probably go under something like different "characters" in a way, but with much larger differences than normal, but I want to be sure of this.

Though this would all be moot if such a quirky game as Thingio isn't up to standards, but I'd at least give it a shot, especially after hearing the level thing.

MechaSource can anything, the only limit is it's user.
No, I don't see chaning playstyles as any problem at all.

Oh so you'll be programming something for use in all languages? (At least the popular ones)

MechaSource has it's own script format which is based on LUA. You make scripts in MechaSource, alot of scripts make out a game, you run this game in MechaSource. It doesn't convert to anything else.

QUOTE (Strong414Bad)

It allows online play by default, it says in the first post.

We've also ended the paying discussion, and developers will be allowed to charge for their game, at a reasonable price with a max of $10.
More on this later.

What kind of game templates should we expect to be included, other than the platforming and fighting game ones?

Can we expect a phisics built-in engine? (Well, You're doing a SSB demo, so I guess it's probably answered).

Assuming I know Mecha a bit, I could say this is going to be something like a MMF2-interface-ed program with a better but easier programming, altogether. Mecha always worked with MMF/2, but it's very noticiable how it lacks so many features (or needs too much "extentions" ), plus it's not written in a language (like GM), but, instead, it's done by click'n'dragging, which makes it a bit less...professional. Clickteam's "storyboard","timeline" and "frame" features are very good, through, so I think he's keeping this in MechaSource.

...Right? :#

EDIT: OH, BTW I finnaly understood what was going on the first topic ([/noob]). And, yeah, it looks very simple.

Let's say... I wanted to make a "Hit enter four times" achievement.

All I would need to program is:

CODE
-[line of code for "IF starting the executable"]
>>setAchievement(1, 5X ENTER, HIT ENTER 5 TIMES, 5, [startvalue], true)

-[Some probably easy line of code that checks "if the user has pressed "Enter"" would be here]

>>doAchievement(1,1)

And after 5 times, "ach_1" would be complete and would light up, right?

I hope I did everything right there. I never messed with programming languages, but this looks easy even for someone like me.

charging games is just about the single most ****ing stupid idea i've ever heard

to set up a service in your system that transfers money [paypal i assume] would be ridiculously vulnerable to manipulation and hacking
unless you do it all manually
which would be an ass load of work on all three parties sides [yourself, customer, creator] that would likely require more supervision than any other part of this project

last why would we spend ten dollars when we can get professional work on steam

I halfway agree here.

On one hand, I like free games and I'm a big fan of anyone making something awesome for free.

On the other hand, charging for a game would mean more professional games would appear and they would be more serious and well-crafted than any free game.

The charging system is completely optional and it's the developer who decides it. It won't appear in the first few releases though.

QUOTE (Drezus)

Yes, except you could leave the last two parameters out and it would work just fine.

QUOTE (SuperMarioMaster)

No.

The SSB-like template is actually more of an example, just like Jumpin Sheeps.
There's only 1 template on MechaSource which is the default, but it has everything you need to make a 2d platform scroller.
