The shading on the bush needs a bit of work, perhaps some more texture or something? You could also add some flowers etc. to them to spice them up a bit.

I wouldn't recommend using a sell out on the outline of the "tree".

I mean the small round bush-looking thing. It's in between some grass tiles.

I'd change the grass on the slopes. It looks weird.

You shouldn't shove people's opinions aside. You wanted C&C, right? Well you're getting Criticism, and you have to learn to take it. And what Hohoo said was true, the way you placed the black pixels makes it look like some green conveyor belt. I'd suggest getting rid of some of the black.

Your bushes and cloud look very sloppy, and looks like you just did it in one go on MS Paint, without even consider redoing their shape.

The dirt on the right that's suppose to look 3D, you should fix up the outline a bit, because it looks unnatural.

Overall, the tileset is fairly mediocre. I understand that it's suppose to look retro, but you did it such a weird fashion.

Like I said before, take criticism into consideration, and don't just throw people's opininons away like they're garbage. Don't look at the picture from your point of view, look at it from a viewer's point of view.

the bushes and clouds looked like that in my other 8bit sheet and noone had a big hissy fit about it, and besides, i based the clouds on realistic ones, and its not my fault realistic clouds look like blobs to you, also, if the bush didnt look like that, what would it look like? a big circle with a flattened bottom? no, i dont think so, and when i meant C+C, i meant ways to improve the design, not to redo a design, and in my next update, some stuff is fixed up though

This is how you can really tell good pixelartists from bad ones: response to criticism. Shrug off opinions and you WILL go nowhere. Nobody is having a hissy fit now, and nobody cares whether anyone had one then.

QUOTE
besides, i based the clouds on realistic ones, and its not my fault realistic clouds look like blobs to you

It is, however, your fault if your sprite does not look like a realistic cloud. Work on that a bit, or a lot.

QUOTE

How about a bush? I'd like that.

QUOTE

C+C stands for Comments and Criticisms/Concerns. If your design is intrinsically bad, the only way to improve it may be to redo it. Again, if you don't catch on to that, your ceiling for improvement is very, very low. I'm glad to hear that stuff will be fixed up, and I'll wait until that update to comment on the sprites themselves.

I am trying to help you improve, and you take it like an insult.

You're outbursting because no one else said anything about them in your 8-bit sheet? Get a grip. I've got my own opinion. Were there any professional criticizers in your 8-bit topic? or did you get a bunch of "looks great" posts?

If I wasn't clear enough, then allow me to make a LONGER explanation of how to improve your design, and I'll even include a picture.

user posted image

This is your tileset. Anything I circled is what I consider weird. or strange.
Let's begin!

Anything circled in red: Those are jagged edges on the cloud. I assume you didn't clean up your lineart, so it came out like that. You want to cloud to appear fluffy, but you insist on keeping it looking jagged.

Anything in pink: The bush's shape is odd because it looks more like someone came by and trimmed it to that shape, which makes it look unnatural. Bushes should look while with messy grass all around it. Not some perfect globe-like artwork.

Anything in blue: The bush in just weird in general. The shading is sorta pillowed, and makes it appear like light is coming from the ground. Like the other bush, it should wild, not some kind of topiary (if that's what trimming bushes is called). Also, you didn't fix lineart again.

Anything in white and yellow: Your "dithering" makes the dirt and grass look like conveyor belts. Do you want a wild outside plains scene, or some shopping mall?

There are many more things I could talk about, but those are some of the main ones.

Look at the shape of things in real life too and other games. Clouds in games are typically fluffy. A real cloud will rarely look jagged. For your information, I don't think clouds look like blobs, so stop assuming those kind of things. Look at a picture of a bush on google. You'll see it is NOT shaped like what you did. They're typically messy looking. Rarely will you find a perfectly round bush like that.

Please take criticism into account, and don't treat me like a moron. I know what I'm talking about. Criticism is the best way to improve. People saying positive things like "It looks great!" will not make you improve. In fact, they'll most likely cause you to do the same mistakes over and over again.

Bacteriophage (MetalMan) knows what he's talking about to, and he's a damn good spriter around these parts.

Sometimes, the best way to improve a design is to redo it anyways.
So stop acting like an ass. Just take our criticism into consideration.

By update, you apparently mean making a few new things.

Your grass slopes still look like conveyor belts. Take off that extra black outline under the top one.

All you did with the cloud was give it a blue outline, instead of a black one. The lineart on it HASN'T been changed like it should have been. You should actually set the tiles up, and see if they look good together.

That big bush looks much better, but still is pillowed a bit. Make the shading come from the top left maybe?

1: thats how i need the slopes to look, otherwise you cant have a sahded looking base turning into a unshaded base

2: i did change the lineart to make it smoother, zoom in

3: i kinda based i from the topleft, but i will try to fix it

@Mario:

1) Uhm...what? You can still shade it just don't give it a conveyor belt look.

2) It still looks incredibly boxy and angular. Clouds don't usually look like boxes last I checked.

Look at a conveyor belt from the side, except you can see the inside, and the wheels are missing. That's what a conveyor belt looks like sorta.

No, 4 colors actually is what most people consider "8-bit" and he hasn't broken a rule that I can see
