though I'm guessing that would require a lot more work

AUTO MODERATION NEVER WORKS, GET SOME PEOPLE WHO AREN'T INCOMPETENT TO ACTUALLY MODERATE THE CHANNEL.

I finally get it.

Why you're an IRC op i have no idea... you're never there and i'm doubting you know any of the commands.

He might be on at completely different hours.

Unless you're on most/all of the time.

He's not on period, i've seen him there once.

Twistendo'll do a fine job.

Stupid amounts of activity doesn't matter at this stage really. Chat's quiet regardless of the time of day. You can start worrying about lack of work when there's actually work to do. This is all just very basic security to keep the IRC in order until it's actually used for something MFGG related other than moaning.

Except he doesn't know the commands so he can't keep it in order.

Except that's not a problem because most good clients can do it for you.

Ban an IP not the name?

tell me a client that can do that.

The list of IRC commands you listed is insufficient. Here is a better list of some of the important commands:

• PRIVMSG: Send a message to a channel or to a user.
• USER: Allows you to login, which you must do before you are able to join a channel.
• NICK: Set your nickname.
• JOIN: Join a channel.
• PART: Unjoin a channel.
• MODE: Change user mode of yourself. If you own the channel then you can change channel mode also.
• NAMES: Tells who is connected.
• HELP: More information about some commands.
• QUIT: Disconnect. You can give a reason as well if you want to.
• PONG: If your program doesn't automatic ping-pong, then you can reply a PING by writing PONG.

There are other commands also, but you don't need them very much. These commands I listed are more important ones.
