So I Tried My Hand at Pixel Art

Group: Posts: Member No.: Joined: -- Status: (0d)	I'm largely dissatisfied with the result. How you spriters diligently go through each every pixel and make it look so clean and stylized is far beyond me -- especially those spriters that work in Paint. After an hour or so of fiddling around with this, my eyes hurt and I have a piercing headache. Cheers to you that are capable of this type of work; I am clearly not cut out for it. However, I have a newfound respect for the people who are. I think I'm going to go to sleep now.

The blend and smudge tools are evidently not a spriter's best friend, then, huh? It's a bad habit of mine to go back and smudge all the shadows to look smoother and more natural. Sorry.

cleaner lines look better in pixel arts imo

Well, it's the first time I've tried in like... at least 5 or 6 years, and I hardly consider my old work art at all. I don't even remember the techniques I used back then, so I didn't benefit from the practice I had so long ago anyways.

Doesn't matter. It's just that pixel art was used because you can't use high quality art on hardware like the NES and such, so part of the art of pixel art is making something look as good as possible with as few colours as possible.

32 colours
4 colours
8 colours

etc.
