An annoying Sonic thing...

I'm really sick of every game being described as "getting back to his roots." Seriously, like EVERY single Sonic game says it's gonna get "back to his roots." But they don't. The new games don't feel or play anything Sonic's "roots." As near as I can tell the new games like Unleashed don't get Sonic "back to his roots" either. It seems that according to SEGA, Sonic's "roots" equal speed, so if Sonic is fast, he's back to his "roots." BUT THAT'S NOT TRUE! There are far more to his roots than running fast. With that logic, he would have had to have gotten slow over the years, and to "get him back to his roots" they are speeding him up. Well, that's not true. The end.

Yeah, what you said is true, Toodles.

People are frequently incorrect about what Sonic games are "all about". Quite a few stages in earlier Sonic games involved careful platforming more than speed (e.g. Marble Zone and Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 1 and to some extent places like Casino Night Zone in Sonic 2 and Sandopolis Zone in Sonic & Knuckles).

Good to hear that some people appreciate Sonic Heroes, though.

The Sonic Rush series claimed it too. They came close, but really, they didn't play a whole lot like the games that I would consider Sonic's "roots."

Sonic Heroes was...okay...but it was buggy and had annoying voices on certain characters.

As I said somewhere before Sonic Team believe Sonic's roots ARE speed

because the first game was faster than every other platformer before it

and they just want to keep doing that for some reason

sonic heroes was bad -- this is not up for debate

sonic is made of sonic speed

he is also has the iq of soap

i remember being excited as hell for sonic heroes

iirc me you mike blyde & tost were all talking about it for quite some time

memories~

and then I dedicated a lot of time to figuring out the file formats in the game, writing tools to extract and rebuild the model and texture resources, and swapping out characters between teams / moving characters' animations around to see the hilarity that would ensue

but it was still a horrible game
