In this topic post freeware games that you NEED to play if you haven't. You know, such as Cave Story, Dwarf Fortress, Rogue, ect. Also, feel free to go into a lot of detail, the more you explain the game the more likely people are to play it!

I'll start out here with a few that I'm sure most of you don't know about, ones that I consider "classics".

There's something about this game that makes it so memorable to me, maybe it's just the way the dude presented it, or maybe it's the catchy repetetive music, or maybe it's the feeling that Dexx-Ent always managed to throw into his games, but I consider this to be the best freeware game ever made. Some may disagree with me, but I love it. It's too bad Dexx doesn't make games anymore.

Ahhh, good 'ol Seiklus. This is the game that single-handedly launched GameMaker and Mark Overmars into stardome. Relatively old, it still manages to hold up, even today. I love the feeling of exploration it gives off, and the amazing amount of secrets it holds. Sadly, this was the last game made by Autofish.

An Untitled Story:

I've been trying to get this game more notoriety, because it's simply FANTASTIC. Possibly the best platformer I've ever played on the computer (Next to Cave Story of course :P) I absolutely love how Matt managed to structure the game so that there are always at least four places for you to explore no matter what. Amazing game. Play it now. Now. Yes that means NOW.

Jumper Two

OH MY GOD. This was the first gamemaker game I've ever played, and I love it to death. Some may say it's too hard, some may say it's too simple, some may say the graphics are lazy, but regardless, PLAY IT. The game has some amazing level design, and some awesome story-telling to boot.

Jumper Three:

The long awaited sequel to Jumper Two, and even though most fans were disappointed, I was pleasantly surprised. Either way, you'll have a hard, hard time with this one, just like the original.

Also god damn why aren't these topics ever created when I'm actually playing indie games.

The Underside is the only one I can think of right now. Oh wait, that game Sumatori Dreams is pretty awesome.

Here are some more

dwarf fortress:
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
Runs kinda slow on my comp but the amazing part about it is that it RANDOMLY GENERATES a living, breathing world (Not a tiny world, a ****ing gigantic world, with myths and legends associated with it.), that you can RUN AROUND IN, or simply sit back and enjoy creating a city. It's a fun ass game. The graphics are very simplistic too, which I personally love so~

Ancient Domains of Mystery:
http://www.adom.de/
Possibly one of the best RogueLikes ever created, this is by far, an amazing game to play. Once you understand the controls, and what you can actually do in the world (Such as: Get drunk) the horrid graphics take a backseat to the amazing depth of the game. It's been five years and I have yet to actually beat it.

Fun topic is fun. Join in guyz.

Oh didn't know that. Even so, it could have easily been published on wiiware or nintendo ds. It's hard to believe the entire game was made in MMF2 by 1 person, and by far it beats a load of official games.

Just goes to show how powerful MMF2 is.
My god.

The bosses for the game are by far the best bosses I've seen in any 2D game.
Holy ****

Noitu Love 2 looks fantastic, but the gameplay isn't so hot sadly. Very easy to play through, controls are pretty wacky, and the first felt like more fun honestly.

The 2nd is only better visually. I found after I played the demo the gameplay gets stale since it's a a tad too easy(even on harder difficulty) since you can spam that slide kick move on any boss/enemy and pretty much win without really having any skills.

however the stage design and bosses are by far the best I've seen. I mean really, a train getting up and running full speed is just crazy.

You can uh, use any of the moves repeatedly, enemies die with no effort, plus you never even hit the ground, and you are given too much health.

Ark 22 is a pretty nice one. Especially impressive since it was all done in GM. Not amazing Cave Story quality, but I'd say it's worth trying.
It's kind of like Zelda but space-age sci-fi with guns. In fact the graphics look like they're based of off LttP.

Why would you say that.

Do you suck at programming or something.

But that doesn't have anything to do with the actual program.

Insanely addictive and very charming. You'll be whistling the music for years. Oh, and it's fun, too!
