I'm not saying I'm planning on starting a Mega Man fangame anytime soon or anything... but if I were, which of the following styles would you prefer to see it in?
Classic 8-bit The style for which Mega Man is most famous, and one which has received even more attention with the release of Mega Man 9. It would make designing custom backdrops, enemies, and Robot Masters much easier, but has the disadvantage of having been used to death in most other Mega Man fan projects.
Wily Wars I mainly like the Mega Man sprite from this. In fact, I'd probably just edit a lot of the 8-bit sprite to make them fit this style rather than using their Wily Wars counterparts since a lot of the other stuff from that game didn't look nearly as good. This style has the benefit of being easily converted from 8-bit sprites with a little added shading, plus it's been used rarely, however quite a few sprites would need to be edited to fit the style.
Game Gear Not much to this style. The Mega Man sprite is okay. I might consider merging many of the sprites from this game with the Wily Wars sprites since they aren't that different. (Note: I'm referring here to the style used in Mega Man for Game Gear, which was basically a combination of levels from Mega Man 2, 4, and 5).
Mega Man 7 Unlikely to use this style since so many people use it and it would be more difficult to create custom sprites (at least for me), but I did want to see how this style fared compared to the other three.
