I switched over to use a raycast instead of a bullet for the portal gun, and it works far better. I don't see the use in having a bullet, but maybe Valve's engine doesn't support raycasting. I don't know.

I'm not sure what to do as a visualization now though. It feels pretty empty without the bullet, but it's way better without. I might have the bullet just shoot while still having the raycast, and then only activate the portal once the bullet hits.

yeah they did

I'm trying to imitate that as much as possible, but in a 2d environment that's kinda hard without looking stupid in the process

Usually I just try several and see which one's the best

that doesn't make much sense though, since it's only like 1/10th a second at max, depending on the distance

It sort of sends out a "charge" that goes very fast, but not blazing. Think "hl2 crossbow bolt."

You can see it.
