Oh, come on.

Black boo just used them as a reference, he didn't copy them pixel for pixel, he just did similar to mak it look good, you disqualify him because it was a good likeness, if that's how this competition works then that's just bull****.

EDIT: And Frogjester is perfectly allowed to use sprites as a reference, so why did such a fuss arise over Black Boo?

It is because it seems likely that Black Boo's entry was eye-traced for the most part. My entry just used official sprites to base poses and animations off of.

Im amazed at how much I've improved from the other sprite comp I entered.

Wrong wrong wrong.

Black Boo copied some things pixel-for-pixel, and just colored the pixels differently. Just because he didn't outright copy/paste ripped sprites onto his sheet at the start doesn't make a material difference.

And Frogjester's look very different from the official sprites. Those were obviously not copied directly.

Copying the basic structure of official sprites does not result in work one can call one's own. In fact, since Black Boo was implicitly claiming credit for that stuff (by entering it), what he did was basically stealing; if it were up to me, I would consider temporarily banning him from competitions, but maybe that's just me.

Black Boo looked at the pixels and directly copied them onto his entry. It does not take any skill to look at the placement of pixels and create the exact same thing.

The end result is no different than just entering the reference material.

Why is this so difficult for you to understand?

Because his entry looks exactly like the YI rips. Yes, you can use sprites as a reference, but don't ****ing copy every little detail. We want originality, you know.

I don't know what timezone this comp is going on but shouldn't it almost be top 5 time?

NOTE: Obviously, as Frogjester said, the ripped SMW sprites in his entry are reference only, so he's not trying to steal them, and of course the rips don't count toward the actual material he's entering.

Hmm, just dawned on me that Frogjester's entry doesn't actually have an area for a final boss fight, but just characters for it.

So I don't know if it qualifies for this comp or not. I'll leave that up to Shyguy Grey (the comp creator) to determine.

I'll hold off voting until later, because if Frogjester's entry counts, then it'll probably be one of the ones I vote for, due to quality.

I'm afraid it doesn't count, which is a shame as it is very good, but the theme was the battle area I'm afraid.

Zoom in on BB's you can see a huge difference.

I do admit a couple do look pixel for pixel IN PLACES but tha's about 5% of the whole sheet.
