Oh, I see whats going on.

My idea

World 1- Toad Town/ Outskirts of town
Mario and Luigi meet up with the Wario bros. who were most likely drawn to the town dew to the goldification of the mushrooms and such. This world has sewers and such

World 2- Desert
A vast desert on the edge of the kingdom. It is full of warp pipes and tombs of the Toads that once lived there.

World 3- Ocean/ Koopa Pirate Fleet
Starts off on a beach after exiting a warp pipe from the desert. At the end of this level, the Bros. are split into two teams, although it isn't with there favorite people.

Wario and Mario sneak aboard a ship owned by Bowser/Syrup, while Luigi and Waluigi fall in the ocean (while fighting I guess). Mario and Wario's levels take place on ships and islands while Luigi and Waluigi are under water and in undersea caverns

(Note that in the parts where they are split up, there are slightly less levels and you switch back and forth. So you will play as Mario/Wario for one level, the pan over to Luigi/Waluigi, until they are reunited)

M&W World 4-Yoshi's island jungle side
Has jungles, rivers, waterfalls, and stuff.

L&W World 4- Yoshi's Island Swamp Side
Has Swamps, and an old factory type castle with traps (Baby bowsers castle from Yoshi's story/island)

The last level for both teams is a Mountain/cave level and they meet at the top and fight a boss.

World 5- Sky World/ ice
Firstl level or two is frozen mountain tops, then clouds, and then Bowsers Doom ships.

World 6-Boos Woods (after the sky boss, the bros and knocked out of the sky and into the woods)
Starts in the woods, the graveyard/cavern, basement, floor 1, floor 2, then ends in the attic.

World 7- Miners Hills
Mine carts, explosives, land slides, caves, and lava all await the heros in this seldom travelled danger zone (this could be a good place for Peardians miner boss guy)

World 8- Bowser on the high seas
This is the final battle. Bowser and syrup have set up a fleet of floating fortresses. Each level is a different ship, each one poses a different threat. From blades to spikes to ghosts, and even a rocking ship full of steal balls. It ends on Bowser/Syrups Floating Castle.

Also, as a way to make it more exiting, I thought it'd be cool to add a "world 9" after the credits with an even stronger optional boss. If we do, heres mine.

World 9- City of Gold
Only 1 level. A huge golden castle with a LOT of traps and such. Theres water, lava, vines and everything else you can imagine. The boss awaits you at the end (Spirit of Midas?)

As for plain old bonus worlds, The Trial Ruins (located in the desert?), and maybe Star Haven (themed from Paper Mario). SH wouldn't actualy be a level, it would be an area with power ups, and some kinda super extra life, as a bonus for beating the game.

QUOTE (Shyguy Grey @ Nov 1 2008, 08:53 PM)
I'm still kinda confused on your layout. Would the a/b worlds both be visited in one playthrough, or if you take one do you skip the other?

Also, I don't see where it says it's a desert, although you post with the worlds confused me.

QUOTE (me)
World 1: Toad Town (Mario Bros.) respectively Deserts (Wario Bros.)

Also a and b just means parallel. Similar to Mario World where you can skip a world by taking an alternative route, but you can always come back to it.
In this layout however, you'll HAVE to win all worlds, but you can decide at a point which one you'll play first.

E.g. after finishing the first world with the Mario Bros. you can choose:
- go to the desert (where the wario bros. come from)
- go to the ice world
-- leads to ghost world
- go to the jungle
-- leads to ocean
--- leads to yoshi's island
---- leads to the Sky

In order to get past a certain part of the game which might be located on Yoshi's island, you have to have found artifacts in the ghost world, desert world, toad town and jungle.
This means you can decide in which order you play the levels, but in the end you'll have to have played at least as many to get those artifacts.

If that's still not clear, please ask for more details.

EDIT: Nother remark: At any point in the game, you can FREELY roam around in the game world, given that you have unlocked the respective parts. Think Super Mario World again.

Ever heard of huge vines leading to the sky?
Mario games have milked fairy-tales ever since they exist, so why stop? ^-^

It does make sense, but it might have helped if you had said that in the first place rather than letting us take it for granted, since that's not the only way Mario has gone into the sky before.

I didn't say the vine was the definite way to go there.
It's just one of the possibilities.

Or use a gigantic Cannon (build from the Artifacts that you collect)
or something like that

or a Yoshi fly you up there

well, besides:
what is with a Zelda-Like trading site quest?
at the end, you can "win" a special area with 1 or 2 extra levels
(a secret cave or something like that)

at the end of that cave, you fight as an optinal boss:
A big Monty Mole

for winning against that boss, you can then visit a "secret" town
a town from the monty moles, where you can byu Worms and healing Herbs
or Veggie Roods or somethink like that

what is with a Glossary Book, where you can look which enemy and how often you have fight against this enemy is writen in it?

for a example:
Goomba (with an Idle Pose Foto) - Beaten 6 times - run away 1 time

World 9- City of Gold
Only 1 level. A huge golden castle with a LOT of traps and such. Theres water, lava, vines and everything else you can imagine. The boss awaits you at the end (Spirit of Midas?)

I like this idea, but I think the boss should be either a reoccuring boss (Like a Hooktail/Bonetail type thing, but with a boss in this game), or something simplistic, so the level doesn't really affect the story directly, since it's just a bonus world. And it should be a bonus for collecting every gold mushroom.
I don't think the spirit of Midas is a bad idea, but that seems like something you'd more likely find in the main story. Maybe you can fight that instead of the machine itself at the end of the game.

Another idea for W9 is to have the credits start after you beat the machine, but then everything starts shaking (That would be the City of God rising from the ground) and the credits start to fall, showing that the story has one final chapter.

I guess, for it to make sence as to why The Spirit would come back, it could be that all the gold drew him towards it, or my original idea that the machine is powered by the actual Hand of Midas.

I kinda like the idea that Wario and Waluigi were either searching for or had the thing that powers the Midas Machine, like a gem or something. In that could be the spirit of Midas or whatever.
And if Captain Syrup stole this gem, it would be another motive for the Wario Bros. to go after Bowser and her.

But yeah, this kinda stuff probably belongs in the brainstorming topic.

Well, I posted it here becuase it ran with what I was talking about.

But yeah, I posted the whole "Wario bros. are after what powers it" thing in the brainstorm section a while back, but with extra, not so good stuff.
