Members can't delete posts, so why can they request a lock on a thread?

C'mon now. Just because a thread isn't going the way they wanted, we can't continue discussing? Lol.

Well technically we can delete posts. We just have to edit a post to only say "WHOOPS DOUBLE POST" or something stupid like that and it'll probably be deleted.

Because I do not feel that passionately about this.

That would be pathetic, really.

Not really. You posted a topic anyways, no big deal asking on something like this.

Becuase If a member could delete posts, he could alter a conversation to look as though it had a different effect. he could tamper with evidence of things.

Getting a topic locked is a different story.
If I make a topic about how I like bicycles, and it turned into an argument between me and Luigifan, and I needed to go, I request lock. and bring it up with luigifan on aim or something personally. most people request locks when a topic gets turned into an argument.

Please lock this thread.

If not, perhaps you could unlock this one. Makes just about as much sense.

For some reason people love requesting lock in the help forum. Even worse is when they edit out their original question, leaving a chain of answers without any context. As if the answers to their original question couldn't possibly, ever be of use to anyone else.

yeah usually even if I say something stupid, or ask a question that results on a chain of responses, I leave it there (sometimes in stroke through) so other people don't gotta ask "wut happened"?

seriously. imo there should be a rule against this in the help forum that gets you banned for at least a day on first offense and your edit reverted

(can IPB even do that)

Well that could be split from the topic and the resulting topic locked. The original discussion remaining intact.

I agree. I had a good reply thought up too. Of course, now that I've said that, people will expect too much and it won't seem as good, but still.

Also, Mecha, you can still do that with post editing.

Something that can easily be solved by properly quoting.
